I love live tracks. Most are so much better than the studio version. This was a great post - you have mentioned so many albums/tracks I was not aware of. Thanks Chris. 👍🏻

Great video Chris, always good to hear you talk about some classics. Back in the late '70s one of our local radio stations had a show for an hour a day where they would play a track from an album by any band that hadn't put out a live album. So all they would do is add some audience applause at the end of the song and I thought, oh my god this is so bad. 😃 However there are now so many stellar live albums available, sometimes someone is digging through the vaults and strikes gold. Band of Gypsys is amazing, Hendrix's guitar work is stunning and Machine Gun is so powerful, wow. There is a fairly recent album out of him playing a small outdoor show in Hawaii, "Live in Maui". and the version of Red House on that is phenomenal. Judas Priest, Unleashed in the East, Sinner. Really rocking live version. I totally agree with you on the Robin Trower live album. The first two tracks of Bridge of Sighs should have been on there. The Genesis Live version of The Return of the Giant Hogweed has Steve Hackett really outdoing himself. My second favourite track on Exit Stage Left is Xanadu....so good, great atmospherics. I'm positive you've listened to Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group Live... the version of Blue Wind where it ends with a bit of Train Kept a Rollin', totally on fire. I'm going to mention a King Crimson live album here and that's The Night Watch. It was recorded when King Crimson was a trio, Fripp and Bruford and Wetton. The version of 21st century Schizoid Man on it is so good. Not to take away from the original from their debut album but this version is so powerful. Cheers

Hi Tim. Need to get that Maui LP. Love Hendrix. Sinner is a great version on Unleashed. Need to revisit that Genesis live record. Not played it for years. Xanadu is a wonderful song. I love both the studio and live versions. I nearly included Jeff Beck to live with Jan hammer but I’m not sure which track I would’ve chosen. Possibly Freeway jam. I don’t have the King Crimson live album but will stick it out. thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. It’s so appreciated. Cheers Tim, Chris

Hi Chris, I recently started following your channel. What I think is great is that you get straight to the point. No unnecessary chatter, no self-promotion. You sum up your personal assessment. Very interesting and entertaining. Thanks. Keep it up. Greetings from Germany. Andreas.

Great choices Chris, in total agreement with BOC's astronomy, and a couple of variations on your choices, whisky rock a roller from skynyrd and love to love from UFO. Also, Neil young's like a hurricane from live rust, and finally Miami 2017 from Billy Joel's songs in the attic.

Hi Chris, really enjoyed watching this, you covered so many superb live albums, excellent. In total agreement about the Robin Trower live, not his best showcase for sure. Two albums I submit are Nine Below Zero's live at the Marquee and Totally Alive In London by The Revillos, the rebranded version of The Rezillos.

Live recordings have an atmosphere rarely found on studio versions, Bullfrog Blues is amazing. Rain and Roadhouse Blues on Quo Live. Be My Friend on Free Live, and an amazing version of Biko on Simple Minds Street Fighting Years

A fab selection! No Made in Japan? 😮 One you'd like is the incindery Johnny Winter And Live ... you covered nearly all my personal faves, though the Mott live album is fun, and I always loved the (1973) Genesis live.

Hi Chris. You certainly have the knack of identifying quality music. I've just listened to several of the tracks you recommended that I hadn't heard before and some of them were great. I've never been particularly taken with Stairway to Heaven as it seemed quite soulless to me. Heart's version was very powerful and seemed to imbue the song with an emotional impact that the original doesn't have. The Zeppelin members watching on seemed to enjoy it and I think Robert Plant had a tear is his eye at one stage. He certainly was listening intently. I have been unable to work out the link between all the tracks you mentioned the other day. Can you put me out of my misery or do you want to maintain your own counsel for now?

All those songs have their title as the last words of the song. The only time the title is mentioned too.

Agree with you on robin trowers live 1974 perhaps they should remaster it with extra tracks - would be great ! Although not the best quality my favourite live track is yours is no disgrace from the yessongs album , every track on there is better than the studio ones. No quarter from led zeppelin song remains the same best solo page ever did. Tattooed lady from Irish your 74 rory Gallagher plus a million miles away. B side of join together by the who baby don't you do it now. Diamonds and rust , victim of changes unleashed in the east ftom judas priest. Mr Big - free live Orgone accumulator - space ritual hawkwind. Warrior - thin lizzy live and dangerous Too name but a few , always prefer live versions Cheers Chris.
