I know it's an old comment, but I never considered it a coincidence that "Vir" is Latin for a heroic man (also the root of "virtue").

I love how the last scene in this video is when Sheridan’s wife gets killed. What was it like leaving the set after that scene: “Well we just achieved what has not been done in all of Television, killing Laura Ingalls Wilder.”
@bryangl15 жыл бұрын
B5 was an incredible achievement in every way. With a limited budget the only compromise compared to more recent series was in set detail (CGI, groundbreaking at the time, holds up well and was completely adequate for the needs of the show even though not matching what is achieved today). Only one other series compares with story detail, arc and complexity, with character depth and with acting, directing and creative integrity and that is Fringe. B5 was and remains one of the great achievements of series television.

"You do not understand. But you will." was Kosh's response to Sheridan saying, "If the cost for this (having The Vorlons attack the Shadows directly) is your withholding support when I go to Za'hadoom, so be it." What he didn't understand was that the cost was actually Kosh's life. Kosh knew that if he did as Sheridan was asking that the Shadows would kill him, and he was scared. Anyone know where I can get B5 in its original 4:3 format? The one I have has been cropped into 16:9 - but see 4:3 should always stay 4:3, it's just not the same.
@leszekandhisrandomstuff.92288 жыл бұрын
16:9 is the original format, it was cropped to 4:3 for TV. It was done that way deliberately. This is why the actors often seem crowded in the center in 16:9.

Let's see Star Trek match that! Cannot be done. I call B.S. It has all started with Star Trek in it's exploration of humanity and science. Also in all of its unique ways opening our minds to understanding the endless possibilities of existence. B5 just does a dam good job in continuing with that exploration.
@knotsnights69407 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Without star trek, B5 never would have existed. And without B5, it's arguable that DS9 (the best star trek series, in my subjective opinion) also would have never left the ground. Both shows owe their best moments to each other and they BOTH ROCK.
@annoyed7077 жыл бұрын
Others have shown that Star Trek could not have happened without earlier ground-breaking classics like The Forbidden Planet.
@marcelmoreau27335 жыл бұрын
Without Buck Rogers, Star Wars, Flash Gordon, Forbiden Planet, etc... Star Trek would not exist. So really, B5 owes to those far more then to Star Trek.
@marcelmoreau27335 жыл бұрын
@@knotsnights6940 actually, it is not arguable. DS9 stole about 75% of its plot from JMS pitching B5 to the producers who basically laughed at hm about a scifi series set on a station then about 2yrs later, they premiere DS9 using a huge chunk of the plots JMS had shown them.

Thank you, jms, for putting this in my absolute favourite series... I'm currently into my third complete collection, having burnt the previous two to an unwatchable grey mass by watching it so often over the last twenty years. There is so much wisdom to be gathered here, and the human condition was never better brought into the spotlight.
