They intentionally probably avoided PDA as much as they could because they were keeping the relationship private. Some examples in the video are just some slip ups, mostly from Courtney. Considering the two of them, I think they both equally wanted to show PDA but because of them wanting to keep it private they didn't. Shayne was seen holding onto Courtney in most of the deleted vids (Courtney's b-day, Kimmy's b-day, the slow dance at the after part)

I think a lot of Smosh fans, myself included, are pretty casual viewers. Like I didn't even notice the clothes sharing bc I don't watch every video nor did I know about the Instagram stuff bc I don't follow any of the cast on socials. So the fact that their content is designed to be drop in, drop out kinda deal worked in their favour

Been a fan for a few years now and it really wasn't obvious, the ship was a well-known thing but for the vast majority of the fans and even many of the accounts creating shourtney content, it wasn't taken serious at all - it was just a joke like "haha they appeared in a video together so let's (fans) pretend to be obsessively convinced they're dating". Shourtney had talked at length years ago on podcasts and things about the ship and said many times that they were just friends, and so out of respect and taking them at face value, most people didn't look anywhere near hard enough to catch things like the sharing clothes in videos released months apart, and the infinitesimal clues scattered across various different socials, etc. Simultaneously in videos they spent so much time together with a convincing only-friends dynamic that everyone came to view the eyebrow-raiser moments that would otherwise look like flirting as "well that's just how they are"

Im sorry but if u havent been watching smosh u dont know what ur talking about, this is not representative of what 90% of casual viewers actually see, how many ppl obsessively track stories from across years to see clues, or keep up with the clothes that are spaced by months in appearance, or the tiniest details among the hundreds and hundreds of videos. It only seems ‘obvious’ becuz this video is so well-researched. The shipping was well-known because fans pushed it so heavily for years it became a joke and its very clear the people on Smosh are friends. Ur argument is clear survivorship bias thanks to the intricate evidence of the video and that it in hindsight its all ‘so obvious’

I heard they were going/did that, but this is right around the time there was definitely being dudes to aggressive online with Courtney and it makes sense not to risk showing any hint at all to where they live and it seems at around the time they might have been starting to get together. Just seems like a whole lot of reasons not to do it then and then especially after this time. It’s a fun idea, but it makes sense to keep living spaces personal and not public in that way.
