Controversial take, but I think courthouse weddings/elopements are the most romantic. Two people who don’t care about spending a ton of money, or having a bunch of witnesses, who just want to make a commitment to each other and really really want to be married already so they make it happen! My partner's family are nice people, but southern baptist and a huge family who would be upset about us not mentioning God in our vows, so we've been discussing having a super small wedding with about 10 people and then doing a reception where they could pray for us and be happy, but one would be for us and the other would be for them. I love the intimacy of courthouse weddings/elopements for sure!

I had (will have) both; I had a court wedding this april. Only present witnesses were our parents, siblings, and their partners and our closest friends that signed the documents with us. We will have a bigger party and a church ceremony in 2 weeks for our extended family and larger group of friends. So we got the best of both worlds. Reason behind this is, I really liked the date in april for our anniversary but we couldn't have a church wedding on it this year because it is in the middle of the week, and even if I don't have a big family, my husband has so it gave us couple of months more to prepare for the bigger event and not worry about legal aspects then. As well as we wanted to celebrate with everyone, but wanted something to be small and private.
