I have a Victorian slope, as we call it. I use the inside for notebooks, pens etc, but as it has a slope to write on and a small ridge towards you, so I use it as a way of working in my armchair, with the top supporting my tablet or laptop plus a notebook.iuse this setup when researching, watching KZbin orreadigchallengig books. It belonged to my grandma andwas restoreand frech polished by my grandather,so its a useful, yet sentimental belonging. I enjoyed the video, Steve, as always.

This sounds really interesting Seth. And I love that highly embellished, old school art look to it!

I remember when you weren't surprised by book reviews in newspapers. They were just there. And in addition to the paper you also got book catalogs in the mail as well as being able to order books from Sears or JC Penney's Christmas catalogs. Now there's no Sears catalog and precious little newspaper

Hi Steve -- I think that portable writing desks are still sold, in small batches, as a niche thing. I've always admired them, thought they were ingenious, little things, etc. Thomas Jefferson's design is my favorite, probably just because it was Thomas Jefferson's. But I don't have one myself. I suppose the closest thing is a rugged, wax canvas journal cover by Lochby that I take everywhere, a Lamy Safari pen clipped to it. I frequently have trouble staring at a blank, white screen and getting the creativity machine in gear. If I start out writing by hand, even just a little while, then the mechanism is cranking enough to transfer to keyboard for the rest of it.
