It's actually nice to hear something much more lighthearted in nature. I still think mental health is extremely important and Azeal is doing an amazing job of bringing awareness to it, but it's refreshing to hear something a bit more humorous and less dark.

i’m never EVER fucking with scuba diving or messing with the ocean after i read into, and WATCHED FOOTAGE of someone diving too far down, getting so deep he physically cannot swim back up,hallucinating thinking he’s at the top, taking his breather off, and drowning, i can’t fathom the fear of knowing or not knowing when you’re at a point of no return like that

If you ever do go that far down, you have to go back up slowly. Give your body time to adjust to the pressure change. Atleast that’s what I’ve heard. Decompression sickness or something. Correct me if I’m wrong. Edit: I heard my info from a story where a man got stuck in a lucky air pocket in a boat that sank, the rescue divers had to slowly swim him up due to how long he was stuck under that giant boat. He’s still alive today and I think he also became a rescue diver.

As soon as you mentioned you picked up a mantis shrimp I was like 'oh fuck you're going to break your hand in this story.' I'm glad it was an entirely different story. A mantis shrimp can punch like a bullet the size of its fist. They're tiny but they're entirely built to break very hard stuff. That's why they're brightly colored and don't fear bigger things.

I’m currently working towards my Master Diver qualification too! I’ve done 35 dives so far and need 50 to do it. I’ve done my Advanced Open Water diver and have gotten First Aid certified so that I can do my Rescue Diver qualification next. After that I can do my Master! It was so nice to hear another diver talk about their stories. Telling people about my experiences to try and encourage them to dive is one of my favourite things. I’ve seen sharks a few times too, however they were just Black Tip Reef Sharks so it was pretty safe. It may be dangerous but it’s one of those activities that once you do you just can’t get enough of and I would really encourage anyone that gets the opportunity to to try scuba at least once

I’m actually getting my scuba diving certificate soon and I am in the PADI seal team aswell, I can’t wait! (I remember when they taught me about the air vest that keeps you buoyant, I was so amazed) I love swimming in oceans with sea life as I have done snorkeling but I’ve always wanted to be able to stay there for longer periods of time. One time when I was snorkeling in Belize, we were going to swim with nurse sharks and I came across some rays, they told us the rays are friendly and I’m sure they are but anyone would still be scared to be stung. Well the reys are swimming around me and just before that I saw my first wild shark ever (I love sharks), I chased it as hard as I could but it was kinda scared of me and swam away. Now while I’m swimming I come across a barracuda, now take in the fact that the barracudas there are HUGE not like super big but abnormally large (and scary!) they have tons of sharp teeth and stuff just look up a picture of an oceanic barracuda. So this barracuda is eyeing me down and I’m starting to feel a little scared, and then, a Rey comes right below me, (I am in a very shallow area near a reef) they say that reys do this as like a game or something but having a Rey right beneath your fear isn’t very fun, but then a realize that the Rey starts to chase the barracuda away, I’m not sure if it was just trying to eat it but I’m pretty sure that it was protecting me! Anyways that’s pretty much it, I also saw a moray eel teaming up with a Goliath grouper by getting behind it and the grouper acts as a sort of wall and they get close to a fish and bam! The eel kills it, they then split it in half, it’s kind of crazy to see two different species working together for food.

Some light-hearted content is nice too see! A good mix of topics right there. Context: I have SSI Open water diver certificate, though i don't do diving anymore. Leaky tanks: This is why I have an fear of/obsession with the pressure gauge. Man o'war: The bloody thing is a menace. I was stung by one. You ever broke a leg? Yea that, but about 4 times worse, and longer and AUGH. Fish encounters: Some fish are really curious, and try to bite off pieces of equipment too. None tried to tackle me yet though. About the abbyss: I don't like it either. It's not fun not seeing anything. Especially at night. The diving instructor: NONONONONONONONO. You know the blobfish (Psychrolutes Marcidus)? It does NOT look like that normally. That's the result of being pulled from a considerable depth (about 1200 m) up to the surface. It's an extreme example of what would happen to all your tissues had they been deeper. As the Guest said: attempted murder. If you want to check if you have Talassofobia i'd recommend playing a nice game called Subanautica, but try as hard as possible to go into the game blind. It's really nice. And really terryfying if you hapen to have Talassofobia.

I’ve always considered getting scuba certifications since every time I leave for vacation I’m running around snorkeling and free diving chasing the fish and one time this shark who wanted nothing to do with me or my go pro (which I had clicked off record trying to record) but where I live the water is more on the vile and rip current side. But it’s great to hear stories explained with so much detail it gives me a clear visualization of how gorgeous it is to be able to stay down there for longer than a few seconds to a minute. Small point: Bugs aka Maine (Atlantic) lobster CAN be sweet and compact, or more meat and less flavor. It's a more matter of hardshell or soft shell. Ready to molt vs just molted; they get crammed into their shell, then burst out face-hugger style. Part of why they come inshore in the summer. Awesome otherwise, been listening to your story and happy for this addition. Nothin but love from this far Northern fishing village!😉

5:51 I once got an ear infection like that while diving in a lake. Wasn’t that deep either, I don’t know how to dive with a tank so I just dive and hold my breath (where we usually swim it's 3-4 meters deep). I've loved diving to the ground and looking at the fish and crabs and stuff since I was little, but I guess that one time I wasn’t fast enough with equalizing the pressure. I dive, and I feel this pop in my ear and then really REALLY bad pain. It didn’t stop hurting until I got to a doctor that put a cotton ball drenched in some salve in my ear, that had to stay there for two days. Not a ripped ear drum, but honestly after that, I don’t think I ever want to experience a ripped ear drum

This is DEFINITELY a Nopefish, found in Nevergonnahappen Bay off the coast of Upper Fuckthatistan. There's no way in NINE HELLS you'd get me to do something like that RECREATIONALLY!! Emergency situation ONLY! To the storyteller I say you're made of sterner stuff than I, thankfully you're willing to share your exploits with us because they're very entertaining ESPECIALLY that horny shark tale, it wrought many a guffaw to hear! Azeal please have more of this type of stuff, it's a much required counterbalance to the more serious interviews.

the funny thing is the 14 foot lemon shark isnt the thing that scared me, it was the fact that you were over a 2000 foot wet abyss(i have kinda severe thalassaphobia, and the fear of looking down into water and not seeing the bottom)

I saw the last story of hers and I relate to it a lot I'm also trans but I mostly related hormone issues (and being denied transitioning because of it) it got into the part of tumor near in the pituitary gland I already know I have it.. I have the testing already written up years ago it's been waiting years now I'm just avoiding the testing.. I've been dealing with chronic cluster headaches since I was young my cortisol is cyclic so I'll have high cortisol one day and low the next creating stretch marks all over my body.. in places it doesn't make since my arms and around where they draw blood and parts of the body that not even extrame body builders get stretch marks and I'm too weak to work out happy to hear someone who survived the surgery.. transitioning and doing things they love kind of gives me hope thank you

So just something about the nitrox segment. First off, normal air is about 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% other gasses. Secondly, nitrox doesn't add co2, just adds more oxygen and takes away nitrogen. Third, nitrox doesn't let you go deeper, it actually DECREASES your depth limit. This is because of oxygen toxicity. Basically, the partial pressure of oxygen in your breathing mix should not exceed 1.4 bar. To determine the pp (haha) you take the oxygen percentage as a decimal and multiply it by how much pressure you're feeling based on the depth. This number increases by one for every ten meters you descend. So with EANx36 (36% O2) at 30m (~100ft) you would have an oxygen pp of about 1.44, which is too much, so you can't even go that deep with EANx36. With EANx32 (32% O2) at 30m the pp would be about 1.28, which means you can go that deep. On normal air, you can get to about 65m (~215ft) with a pp of about 1.365. So to sum it up normal air lets you go deeper than nitrox.

I remember the one and only time I went scuba diving was in Belize. It's hard to recall exactly what it was like since I have the memory of a microwaved banana but one thing I will always remember is just how badly I want to do it again. One of these days for sure. Scuba diving may be expensive and the training may be long and extensive, but it is ABSOLUTELY worth it all.

Okay... I'm not a diver myself and I've only met 3 sharks that weren't behind glass, but every other source I've heard about sharks says that their courtship rituals typically involve the male biting the female's back, not nudging them or grabbing a fin. The female decides whether or not to mate with the male based on how strong his bite is. Sharks usually nudge things out of curiosity or an attempt to clear themselves or each other. Kind of like a wolf licking someone.
