I woke up to all of this 5 years ago when I had to retire to take care of my husband who had a stroke. I’m now 70 and regret not living life fuller and more “free” from the things and behaviors that bogged me down and robbed my joy. My advice to everyone is listen to Robyn. She is helping us all to embrace simplicity and self-care that ultimately makes us better daughters, sisters, wives, mothers, friends etc. Don’t wait. We don’t need to say yes to everyone. We don’t need stuff. Our kids don’t need stuff. Managing stuff steals our time. God bless y’all.

This is the gift of perimenopause... we are no longer willing to put up with any B.S. It's truly part of this phase of life. I agree with everything you're saying! Now that I'm 65, I'm way more focused on my health, my rest, only making room for the good things. Living life more intentionally.

I don't even own a TV anymore but I don't watch the news on any other devices either, for probably 20 years!!! Every once in a while I'll get a pop-up for a really big story that I might click on and skim so I know what's happening, but otherwise I don't want to hear all of that negativity every day!!! That's all they ever seemed to put on the news!!! Even when I HAD a TV I didn't watch the news for a good 10ish years bc of that!!! (And I'm only 52! Lol) I'm saddened by my grandmother who watches pretty much ONLY the news all day long "so she knows what's going on in the world" but meanwhile she's taking in all of that negativity all day long and has nightmares Every night!!! :(

You nailed it with this one, Robin. So many things I have been thinking about or realized with you saying it how much I need to pay attention to it. Not micromanaging, not taking on other people's problems, not neglecting my health are the top three off the top of my head. I think a lot of why we do these things stems from us being women/moms/caretakers (or being brought up to be told we should be) and so we put other people's problems and happiness in front of our own. One thing I still struggle with is if I don't micromanage, and I don't do all the work myself, why should I have to live with the mess or undone things if the others don't do them?
@MinimalistHome2 ай бұрын
I’m glad you can relate! I’m not a parenting expert, so please seek some out who have more step by step advice on this kind of thing, but I will clarify that there’s a difference between leading / managing the home / housework and acting in a micromanaging way about it. Neither needs to mean that you do all or none of it. I do see your point though and it might take a bit of time to shift into a new routine that works for you and your family a this time. 🤞🏼💛

Toxic person, ohh yes! I don't have to forgive everyone everything. I can forgive someone because deep down I feel that person is sincere, but I can not forgive someone who I don't feel is sincere. I said no to useless week end trip, to walking pets, to relatives I hate, and travelling for the sake of taking souvenirs and photos.
