I listened to just the first 20 min and I was hooked. Great insight and practicality, coming from someone who is on a serious de-cluttering journey and finding voices of wisdom and sanity in these women! I am learning to stop blaming myself and look at outside forces and being forgiving of not "knowing" how to maintain a household. No one ever passed a manual to me, even when I was living at home! I thought I would be a perpetual slob... ;( and just didn't get the organization thing down. Now I know there are other forces at work. Bravo to meaningful, practical, life-changing information.

I have used most of the methods, haven’t heard of some. Will try them. I love cleaning, organizing, order and am getting closer to my goal, which is loving coming home to my apartment that is exactly the way I want it. Many, many years ago before husband and children, I had an apartment that was exactly what I lived. Now that my children are grown and I am a widow, little by little it us getting there. Thanks for this video, you know what you are talking about. Enjoyed listening so much. ❤️

I have been watching more decluttering videos lately and I was watching a couple more of yours and came across this one. I decluttered my small linen/extra food closet yesterday and decluttered over 50 items. And I realized that today is June 2nd so that means I accidentally started the 30 day challenge; backwards. Wish me luck on the challenge for June way over here in Newfoundland!! 😃

OMG! I had to pause this video because I identify with ALL of the examples, in all the stages in my life. I really love Dana's method, I just started with the 'is it trash method' and I have already cleared several spaces in my home. Even my husband has started decluttering and fixing some things around the house. Thank you so much!

This video is great. My problem is other people in my house such as my husband. I can reduce clutter, clean etc. But my husband doesn't follow the plan. Very frustrating.
@MinimalistHome7 сағат бұрын
This can be hard! I’m not sure what you mean by the plan, but I do hope you find a way to address your frustrations with him or simply find ways to guide him to change / get with the plan! Good luck. 🤞🏼🌟

Take it there really works! I have some ADD, officially diagnosed by coworkers and my husband! I love the feeling of finishing then if i find something more important to do I can do that with no guilt or mess. It really reinforces the whole "a place for everything" concept, too. And I tend to toss some junk to make that item fit better to boot, when it's easy, not an elaborate organizational task.

I'm kind of new to the decluttering community I guess you'd say, but your situation looks more like hoarding and not just having a problem with clutter. To me, clutter are things that you have to bring in your home like mail and personal care products and you may or may not be able to figure out how or when to get rid of them, or you may not have the time. But when someone is going to garage sales and intentionally bringing things in that they may use in the future it seems like hoarding. But I guess in the end, the necessary actions are the same to get your home under control. That all being said, I need to stop watching these videos because it just makes me want to cry makes me want to cry. I'm 63 years old and mildly disabled, taking care of my elderly mother to an extent, and I literally don't have the time or the energy to make a significant difference in my house. And I don't know that I ever will. I also have basically no help the most I pay other people to help me. There are things I do pay to have done but mostly on the outside of my house.

It's amazing when you're living life, how it builds up. I thought I was pretty good at decluttering, but the last few years have been a whirlwind and all of a sudden I'm asking myself "where did all this come from". It came from 2 parental estates, a business downsize, 2 adult children leaving home and bunch of other things. I find watching the actual decluttering videos so inspiring. The other week I stopped IN THE MIDDLE of a video and started decluttering a shelf, it was like I'd been hypnotised LOL. I started laughing when I realised what I'd done. I've been at it for over 12 months now. I just started with the bathroom cabinet one night, i stayed up til midnight doing it. Some areas I've been over several tines. I'd love to get it done in one big purge but life just doesn't work that way. Get hold of some boxes or bags, pick a cupboard, a drawer, a shelf and just START. I've made a commitment to spend time decluttering at least once a week, sometimes it might only be half an hour, once it was 15 minutes, other times its hours. Sometimes I get rid of a little, sometimes a lot. But it's all progress. Another channel I recommend is Peeling Away the Clutter with Mira. She has some health problems and her perseverance is very inspiring.

Just choose a spot, take a photo of what it looks like now, spend five minutes getting rid of trash and putting away things that need to be put away. Take a photo at the end. It will be better. You CAN make your house better five minutes at a time. And better is good!
@labradorite82569 сағат бұрын
The other thing is when you get some results, however small, it's super energising! There was one drawer in particular that every time I walked past I thought I'm SO glad that's sorted out. I wasn't carrying the weight of that in my mind and it gave me so much energy. Doing even a little bit frees you up so much, you can move to do more.

It is so hard to think straight when there is simply TOO MUCH stuff! I’m glad to hear you talking about this in the passes tense. While decluttering never ends, we can bet to a place that I call “maintenance” and it’s way easier than the initial stages. 💕

@MinimalistHome2 күн бұрын
Interesting! I totally get it. Asking WHY can be done in so many different ways and feels different to different people. I like to help people (who are ready and curious about this) to ask why they are in a situation of having clutter and this CAN usually help them to let it go faster. They need to want to dig into this though, so it’s not the same as asking “OMG, WHY do you have all this clutter?” 🌺

One thing that helos it to find a place that does whatever fixerupper. Such as the broken crayons- instead feel bad throwing them away, google and actually there is a place that reutilizing all.of these broken crayons! So send them off to the place who focuses on that. Then they are not wasted but out of your house! Same as for when dana finally gave an old car to a car junk to good cause place instead trying to add it to her own project list.
