She already learned how to pick up her room and toys in the living room before that time, too, even if she was just crawling. There are so many ways to teach responsibility and accountability to kids. “Teach a child when they are young and they won’t depart from it.” I also had chore charts and charts for her schoolwork and assignments with rewards after they were filled.

It happened a couple of months ago but when it happened, she chose not to share because of fear of judgment, the timing (around Ramadan/Eid time) and how it took them some time to mourn and grieve their loss. Zain serious question as an American who married a Moroccan (divorced now). When I lived in Berrechid I did the laundry for multiple family members. His sisters and their families and was told this is normal in the culture. Like I did washing, taking it to and from the rooftop, folding, putting it away… I’m really helpful and there was nothing else to do. Is that actually normal? 😆

That’s terrible, sorry but most African and Muslim family will treat you as a guest. There will be a maid who cooks and cleans. Maybe they expect you and other women to assist her but not doing all the work esp alone, no. I stayed in my husbands home in Ethiopia and a maid brought breakfast, lunch, dinner. The clothes disappeared then reappeared nicely folded and clean. I was never asked to touch or do a thing.

I dislike Angela and her foul self, but a few things: - Women do everyone's cooking, laundry, etc for everyone in the house, including guests, so it's no problem to help out, especially if he's not working. He's not a housekeeper, and neither is she, but he's just contributing to the household, as is she, - Some of those kids are old enough to be doing their own chores like cleaning their own rooms, - African men - and that includes North African - are spoiled rotten by their mothers in comparison to their daughters, who are expected to do all the household chores, but men are in charge of tea-making! There are exceptions, but it's not the norm.

It’s just disturbing how messy her home is. If she had a normal, clean, organized home, Michael helping out would be normal. Michael being told to organize and clean a hoarders home is disturbing. Also depends on peoples cultures but in Ethiopia, we don’t expect a guest who just got off the flight to get put to work. Let him rest, eat, show him around the city, introduce him to friends and family. Give him some time like a few weeks to get adjusted. Then he is now a local, the guest title will wear off and he can get busy with looking for work and helping around the home. It’s giving she was waiting the whole time to use him as free labour like a House Elf from Harry Potter.
