Jon, as a landscape enthusiast, go to your local landscape supply. They have all this stuff in bulk and deliver it for much cheaper per volume. Have them bring you dump truck loads of sand, pea gravel, river stones, and even large stones. Then you can really make a sick floor for the Bass Factory!

Good tip. The landscaping place will also deliver and plant large trees around the pond.

Well, your pond brought to mind an old trick I remember reading in Field and Stream in the early 70's for growing huge fish. Make wooden tripod tied together at the top with about a foot or so of poles above the tie point. It should be long enough that it sticks a few feet above the surface of the pond. Take a wire basket and place it in the top of the tripod. Take meat or fish pieces you might throw away and put them in a plastic bag, in which you poke several large holes. Place the bag in the wire basket atop the tripod. Flies will lay eggs in the meat scraps, and the resulting maggots will eventually crawl out of the bag, fall through the holes in the wire basket and into the water and feed the fish.

Best way to get the big bass in your area is to get an old map from your county. Something from the 80s or older so you can match up where the old lakes are and find those old blood lines

If you cannot buy cypress you can some cottonwoods. Next should be both planting trees for shade so that the pond does not get too hot (maybe transplant some water plants as well), put in an aerator to avoid a Summer fish kill, and plant forage fish, maybe some little blue gills with minnows.

You should build this pond up super cool as fast as you can before the main summer months get here. Make it a dream fishing pond with a bunch of diverse structures and drop offs and rocky areas, brush, maybe vertical logs, etc. Make it your own fishing heaven, but I would make it fast before everything really starts sprouting and growing too quick
