Also can we talk about how Avi just drops the bass at 2:25.....Dude is insane.

He did it, like, three times during the video 😆 Also LOVE the camera shake when he does it, just adds to that sweet bass drop 😍

The greatest shift from a "not that spectacular" original to a masterpiece for me is "come along" barley recognizeable.

They have that magic to make you like/love their versions of songs that you don’t like the original. It’s a talent all on its own.

Yep. Was never a fan of this song. Also, MUCH prefer their Swedish House Mafia remix, much better than the originals.

I love it, they were just babies. You got to see a lot of Kevin and Avi in this one.

PTX and Home Free both have the knack to make you like songs you previously didn’t like/hated! lol That just shows how great they are! I loved this, and your reaction with Kevin’s “water drop” sounds! I reacted similarly! See you on the next one. Maybe mix up a little bit with some other artists, though. Of course, one could never get tired of PTX!

You know I've watched this a hundred times, but I've never noticed this one weird sound Kevin created. I'm sure I will focus on it every time I listen to this song.

So, having fun with the Pentatonix/Superfruit rabbit hole? Might be time to graduate to "Wizard of Aaahs" by Todrick Hall and Pentatonix or Aha star vista :) Anyway keep up the great work!

Back in 2013 when I first found Pentatonix, this was the video I would play for people who had never heard of them. Gotye made a compilation video with clips of some of the hundreds of covers people made of this song, and our guys pop up two or three times.

I didn't watch The Sing Off when they were on it. THIS was the video that I first discovered them so it will always hold a special place in my heart. After hearing this, I fell in love with them and did research about who they were. And a new Pentaholic was born. Bliss.

This is one of their more overlooked videos for sure. Another of the early videos that I absolutely love is their cover of "Starships". You very rarely see anyone reacting to it yet it's such a fun video. Early on they had a penchant for recording in places with great echo effects. It probably helped the budget. I've always felt the majority of their covers are better than the original.
@kristinhowk82314 жыл бұрын
I like the halo effects you added. 👍🏻😂 For years I didn’t listen to pop music at all, mostly because I couldn’t make out the lyrics because of the instrumentation/effects. And yet, PTX has me listening, repeatedly, to all those songs that I thought I hated. 🤷♀️ All those years I was avoiding pop music I spent listening to country, so I would have expected to like Home Free more than PTX, but for reasons I can’t pinpoint, PTX appeals to me more. I do appreciate Home Free, and enjoy watching reactions to their stuff, but there’s very little of it I’d put on a playlist.

I never watched the Sing Off until later after I discovered PTX. This was the very first time I saw these kids, and they were still practically kids a the time, when this video came out and went viral.. It was love at first sight and I've followed them ever since! Including Superfruit, I used to live for their weekly vlogs and I miss them so much so I'm glad you are reacting to them too. I've seen them in concert almost every time they have come to St. Louis and i saw Avi on his solo tour last August. Yes, they do sound amazing live too.

Love this one - thanks again Shawn ! It reminded me of a vid I saw (think it was from a meet and greet) and this little girl was really worried when Mitch's chorus came in because she thought he was sad ! I think maybe the lyrics and the fact that Mitch was in character (as always) made it look like he was ! I love that they touch every age group - just an incredibly talented bunch of friends.

I have four Pentatonix-related requests. PTX live and off-mic singing Run to You at any concert, then video of Say Something. That's Christmas to Me, for a Christmas song. And then Superfruit's cover of Rise. It's a MUST! I'm a fan of Pentatonix, Home Free and Voice Play, and I've been enjoying watching your journey. Not only through their music, but through your You Tube experience. Keep up the hard work, it's paying off, I promise!

I found this video watching the Gotye version. It was the first PTX video I ever saw, and I've been a Pentaholic ever since. This is early, raw PTX, with almost no studio work, just a mic and a shaking camera, standing in a garage. I love the Gotye version, it is so arty, but if I had to choose, I'd listen to this one every time. Next after this one, are Gangnam Style and Thrift Shop, and Evolution of Music, if you haven't done it before. And, the new mic sounds really good!

I'm so glad you reacted to this one! This is one of their hidden gems I'd think. Not many people react to it. Great reaction! This reminds me... check out their garage performance of "Without You" (yes, the one they did on The Sing Off). They didn't like their performance on the show and felt that they needed to do their performance justice. Not many people react to that one either. Umm, yeah. I was about to turn of my computer and start the night time routine... when it somehow slipped my mind that you upload just before I go to bed... three videos? Guess I'm sticking around a little longer tonight! 😁

The first video of Pentatonix I ever watched was this and this was a time when I was listening to the different versions of the Gotye song. I thought this was the best version. I don't remember why happened next (probably evolution of music or Beyonce) but I found that they were in sing off and then watched the same videos you watched and watched them grew before my eyes. Was happy to finally watch them in concert and it was just so crazy. I'm just so happy for you man.

Yes. They are good at creating likeable versions of songs I don't like... a good example of that is "La La Latch".. HATE the original of La La La with the little nasal kids going la, la, la... BUT Kirstin turned that vocal to one of my favorite "yeah, yeah whatever..." defiance songs when my ex would go on and on nagging and griping.. I'd be singing "La La Latch" in my head... 😁 😂 or something from Linkin' Park "... I wanna be pushed aside so let me go..."... eh hem..
