vyq did a similar thing by letting snake bounce against the invisible wall over and over. But c5s was a more egregious cheat
@eclipse72174 ай бұрын
Potentially. It's a bit unique, since we've never seen a troll course on that scale before 😂
@gagejoseph914 ай бұрын
Entirely disagree. The purpose of timed challenges is NOT only learning things during valid runs, it's timing how long it takes someone to figure out a successful run overall. Learning is the whole point. Learning after a failure isn't wrong. All that matters is that the successful run is valid. Everything leading up to that is learning how to do it, and that does not inherently mean you can ONLY learn while a run is valid.
@whiteerdydude4 ай бұрын
@@gagejoseph91 Well, the rule was you reset if you touch the lava so... He was kinda breaking the rules to test the level faster. If it is a competition, they should try to follow the rules.
@gagejoseph914 ай бұрын
@@whiteerdydude You're referencing the literal wording of the rule, not the SPIRIT of the rule/challenge that OP originally appealed to. The rule that you must reset if you hit the lava does not intend to imply that upon hitting the lava, resetting must occur IMMEDIATELY, it implies that if you hit the lava, even if you can survive, you must reset for the run to be valid. Ergo, if you hit the lava and survive, you can still check stuff out, but you have to reset and start from the beginning for the run to be valid. The rule is "If you get hit be the lava, you have to reset", not "If you get hit by the lava, you have to reset IMMEDIATELY", and that distinction is small but important. So if you're referencing the spirit of the rule, you're wrong. And if you're referencing the literal wording of the rule, you're still wrong.

I know this isn't what you were referring to in your comment but a Smash game where we can create a custom character from the moves of the pre-existing characters in the game would be sick. A lot of nerfing would have to happen for this to exist and work correctly, but it'd get me back into the game for sure. For videos like these, your idea combined with mine would make for super fun videos. Imagine they do fan-made courses and you have to build a character that you think would get through the stage quickly.

not cheating, testing is allowed imo
@gagejoseph914 ай бұрын
The way I see it, it is only cheating if you BEAT the stage after taking damage. Taking damage doesn't mean you have to reset, it means you failed that run. Learning from failure is the whole point. Using your failures as an opportunity to learn is the premise of challenge stages. All that matters is that your successful run is legit. Everything before that is entirely for the purpose of learning how to do that successful run. So YES, you can keep testing things after taking damage. You just can't count THAT run as a valid success.

it's funny to see mario maker mistakes by creators. so i'm gonna leave a hint here for future creators: REMOVE WAITING: when people wanna play a course, they wanna play the course. sitting there and waiting for limit to be charged, is waiting, is not playing the course. that moving platform on the yoshi course is a cool idea, but unfortunately an oversight, because it's a lot of waiting too. at least if they don't figure out that they can stop it and leave it where it is. but then, why make it move anyway? and you always gotta account for the possibility of people not realizing stuff like that. just some minor improvements to point out. great courses otherwise!
