All rent control laws do is restrict supply and increase costs for other tenants. There are an estimated 60k apartments in NYC being held off the market because of rent control. And with the proposed expansion of rent control across the state and the new "Good Cause" eviction law being pushed, along with the active resistance to new market rate construction in the city, it's only going to get worse.

A legal bedroom in NYC must have minimum dimensions of 8 feet on either side, including a minimum ceiling height of 8 feet and must be at least 80 square feet in size. Furthermore, a legal bedroom must have at least two forms of egress, one of them being a window no smaller than 12 square feet. For a bedroom to be considered legal, it must be possible to access a bathroom without having to pass through any other bedroom. Window regulation for legal bedrooms in NYC is addressed in § 27-2058 of the NYC Administrative Code.

Then WHY YOU & PPL CHOSE TO RENT IN DOWNTOWN?? When the apartment & land is tight & not much any space left. PPL WANT RENT IN DOWNTOWN SO THEY CAN GO OUT FOR 3 minutes & have EVERYTHING, RESTAURANTS, MINI SUPERMARKETS, BANKS, BUS & TRAINS RIGHT NEXT IN THEIR APARTMENT!! When 5 millions want stay in the place, but have only 1 millions apartment. THEN PPL WONDER WHY IT EXPENSIVE?? WONDER WHY THERE IS CROWN & NOT MUCH APARTMENT LEFT? No, I’m not supposed high price raising & overpriced. BUT PPL ALSO PLEASE USE THE BRAINS!! Buy cars & rent far away from downtown!! Or rent outside of city & take more times to take bus/trains to going for study, working place. Alots ppl spend 2 hour for 1 turn, everyday just from their house place to working place, that’s mean it take 4 hours EVERYDAY FOR 2 TURN JUST FROM THEIR HOUSE TO WORK PLACE!! Then you can have less experience & more space as you want if you don’t want in downtown!! But it might very tired for everyday because it might take 3-4 hours just to get in place to place.

New York has always been this ridiculous. I remember 40 years ago the most common joke about living in New York was "A thousand dollars and no fuckin' bathroom?!" It's why in any show that shows people that are more middle/working class, they live with someone else. Hell, they even did that in Friends with Joey and Candler living together, and Rachel and Monica. Ross was a University Professor, so he lived on his own; and Phoebe inherited her grandmother's place. There is a reason why most of the firefighters that were killed in the Towers lived in New Jersey, not New York City. When living in New Jersey is cheaper, your city has a problem. At least it used to be cheaper if you got a place in Brooklyn; but entitled hipster Millennials ruined that. Now you have to go to Queens, east Brooklyn or the Bronx to find decent rents, if even there. Yeah, New York sucks to live, unless you have money. It always has.

Apartment #1: If the "bedroom" has no windows, it's not a legal bedroom, though if you removed the door and used a curtain, it probably meets the requirements. The kitchen is amazingly large, and the place looks fine for a single, if also overpriced. Apartments #2 & 3: The same comments apply, but they have more space. Apartment #4: An old-time fancier building with laundry, but it's SMALL, with questionable wiring. Apartment #5 is also tight and has a hazardous microwave. I guarantee my son and grandson could clog that toilet. My son comes to my house everyday to take his daily dump 💩.because his wife won’t let him do it at their house anymore 🤣. I made him buy a sewer snake and if he clogs it or commits other sins in there, he knows where the scrub bucket is and he had better clean up after himself, or else ☠️. I won’t let my grandson use my bathrooms.

Apply for affordable housing. NYC connect. Many brand new buildings in NYC. Apts come with washer and dryers in unit. Rents much cheaper. Everything brand new. It's a lottery but you might get selected apply for as many as possible. The rent is too high , food is too high. Cut cost where you can. Let's just be real with people, for real.

Any smaller and people will have to sleep standing up. Their office might be bigger than their apartment. The folks camping on the street in RVs might have more space. Some people might be too fat to fit in their unit. Alright, joking aside, you know people are going to bunk up 3 to a unit with those prices... We might think we're safe living elsewhere but those prices are just going to hunt us down and find us. We'll be splitting units up here just like they do there. We'll be begging our bosses to let us live at work. He'll be there too. It'll be like a sleep over that never ends, only it won't be with your friends and IT won't let you hold LAN parties.

I own a rental management company in Idaho. Those bedrooms are deathtraps. You need at least 2 decent points of egress (ways to get out in case of fire) and these “bedrooms” don’t have that. There is no way I would rent out a property with those unsafe and not up to code bedrooms. Is that even legal in NYC?
@fernkitty
@fernkitty Жыл бұрын
@@lisabaltzer4190 I believe it's only illegal to advertise it as a "bedroom". Same rules apply, there needs to be a window for it to be declared as such.
