A good thought too and the answer is yes! It's not like the people who actually have access to the levers of power came up with some massive conspiracy to, in turn, push conspiracy theories. It's more like the proliferation of social media made those theories spread like wildfire and proliferate in ways that wouldn't be be possible at any other time in human history and some of the polublic sector and private citizens who run shit leaned into them. Some. Basically, Qanon types are so stupid they radicalized themselves and allowed the actual bad actors to not only not receive widespread negative attention, but look like freedom fighters.

The issue with the last story is how the author didnt do a decent job at making it sound realistic. For example if you were in said situation, you wouldn't lable it as "part 1, part 2" ect, you would say something like "heres an update". Then at the end the protagonist suddenly goes from talking about what is happening to a 6 year jump, while also saying earlier in part 5 how "this just happened yesterday". Its just takes the potential reality out of it.
