📚 Description: Neon Genesis Evangelion is an anime that was released in the mid-90s. While I had never heard of this show prior to the release of this guitar, it appears to have a very strong fan-base around the world so when Fender released this Asuka Inspired, Limited Edition, Japan Exclusive Telecaster the orders flooded in to me from sad USA-based buyers hoping that I could help assist them with getting one into the United States. Only 30 of these guitars were exported officially from Japan, the rest are for sale only by Japanese dealers. Today, we will unboxing, take a deep look at, and review the 2020 Fender Neon Genesis Evangelion Asuka Telecaster MIJ exclusive.
There is also a rather embarrassing typo on at least the first run of these guitars. Serial Number is misspelled "Serial Nunber." It's not like Fender Japan doesn't make guitars that often so it is a rather unfortunate, but funny, over-sight on QCs part. Hopefully, they fix that for the 2nd run!

I think the 'nunber' was deliberate. They made that error a long time ago early in Fender Japan, and those typo are now sought as rare and special. This may be an homage to that long ago legitimate 'english as not your language' error.

Oh, and "Serial Nunber" is an honest mistake. In Japanese, number is spelled like this: ナンバー so it's like 'nanba.' Plus, an innocent mistake adds to the value lol.

@@michaelmoore7975 Right. More specifically, there is no 'm' or 'n' in Japanse. Then sound we attribute as 'n' is actually kinda in-between an M and an N. There is a 'ma mi mu me mo' and a 'na ni nu ne no' but as far as sounds in Japanese that sounds like a consonant without a voiced vowel sound, they only got ン, so they get by the best they can. It works well enough, so one of the only problems you can run into is stuff like the back of this tele headstock when an english word has to go back from Japanese to English. Presuming, of course, it wasn't just a straight typo.

It's a mistake commonly found throughout Japan--not only in this instance. They're just spelling it the way it's been adapted into the Japanese language. It sounds like that spelling in Japanese. Or maybe not? Because the anime reflects an imperfect universe, it could be an intentional imperfection. It could be an inside joke--a parody of this mistake being common throughout Japan. Or it could be an intentional Japanization of the word. In the end, very few Japanese would care. To the Japanese, it is probably no different from the American spelliing of "color" and the British spelling of "colour"--or "theater" and "theatre." Who's to say what's right or wrong? If these squiggles communicate something, that's all that's necessary, right? Oh, and hardly anyone gets fired in Japan. In Japan, you are given a chance to learn from your mistakes because the assumption is you will and that will make you a better employee. And you got #69? All you need is one rich hentai guitarist Evangelion fan and you could sell it for a million yen!

Evangelion is in Japan like Star Wars is in the west. It's absolutely *HUGE* , the show, the movies, all the shops and centres and stuff themed after Evangelion, the merchandise, the advertising. It's crazy. I tried to watch the show cos of all the hype I heard, but it's terrible. It's like all anime, they all seem to be terrible for the same reasons. I absolutely cannot stand anime, just drives me mad. This show has the typical enormous amount of misogyny and peadophilia like most anime has. But maybe it gets good later on. There's only like 27 episodes. I bailed after 5. The only anime that's any good and has none of the typical misogyny and peadophilia and homophobia and transphobia etc is the films of Hayao Miyazaki, films like Spirited Away which is just so beautiful, it's like Alice in Wonderland and the Wizard of Oz mixed together but much better. All his films are among the best ever. He's arguably the greatest director/writer ever Oh and that film that blew up a few years ago and became the biggest grossing anime film ever, called "Your Name". That is an astoundingly good film. It made me cry big old man tears, full on bawling. It's so emotionally effective But yeah like 99% of anime is trash. Think of the kind of westerners who are obsessed with anime, neckbeards with casual misogyny and body pillows. Watch any random anime and you immediately understand why these guys who've never heard of a shower exist.

The solid white I may makes perfect sense from a design and color perspective. They didn’t stray from the bold solid colors by adding “sparkles” with some kind of Mother of Pearl or faux MoP. Then, they were able to make the logo stand out with the silver against solid black, matching the silver frets. Well done. I do agree with you that the bridge pu cavity should’ve been better finished since it can be seen. Looks like a nice guitar. Would love to hear some R&B on that - some Jimmy Nolen!

Great video! That was a lot of fun. The pick ups were really thin, but other than that all the other appointments were nice. Contoured heel , crazy but cool color scheme, but without a doubt the neck with the tall narrow frets and the black headstock with the mat locking tuners and Fender Telecaster in Silver is my favorite thing on this guitar. I personally think it was worth the money.

I just got mine a few months back. It is my most expensive guitar that I have, but it was definitely worth getting. My tele has "nunber" 17. just one off from the one in the vid. lol

@@zuke-ci4vd I have not actually... been holding off on messing around with the guitar, but I assume it's the same thing. I did however like the pickups so much that I put it in my strat. I bought the deathbuckers and it is super clean.
