We use to let the local farmers haul our gin trash for free and they use to spread it on their cow pastures and always had a menagerie of weeds come spring... They loved it though and it was free feed. This was long before round up ready cotton.

Eric, just make sure you never run equipment or a vehicle over your septic lines. The chambers mash down relatively easy. Lawnmowers only, and not a big heavy one at that. Keep up the good work, like the 4455.

Yeah They don’t see the yield bump like us. You have to remember I’m not in the garden of Eden where you can grow 300bushel corn easy. I need every advantage I can get.

Have you thought about getting those stainless steel clips that go on the gauge wheel arms to help prevent wearing a divot in them? I think RK makes them maybe.
@TheCropCritic7 ай бұрын
Yeah we looked into them. There again a little wear on your arm from the mustache in the cotton world is a mile of depth. That’s why we keep fresh arms on our planter at all times. We plant cotton super shallow so we have to have our depth gauged just right.

It’s a cheap way of getting your nitrogen on your planter. They work great but I know guys around here that’s broken them off crossing terraces.

You can’t because it makes them too fat and they will drag up. I wish it was that easy brother.

have you tried hard surface them
@TheCropCritic7 ай бұрын
They come hard surfaces. The bottom isn’t the problem it’s the sides. You can’t make them too wide or they just drag up. Just a piss poor design.

instead of complaining and hard surface the side that wear
@TheCropCritic7 ай бұрын
You do that and they will drag up for sure. Get you a set and tell me how they work out for you. My 4th season with them and working with precision on the hard surfaces ones that are much wider and in turn drag up terrible! They are just a problem and they know it believe me because they told me last weekend in Louisville.

We laser clad harrow tines to get more life. I wonder if you were able to do the fertilizer knifes would be worth it.
@TheCropCritic7 ай бұрын
You would burn straight through them. Not much material on the new ones around the holes where they wear. They have it so you have to buy their stuff period.
@classicfarmer58177 ай бұрын
It could be to thin. Cladding only penetrates about 5% into base material. I need to get my hands on one and try. It also has a lot of nickel in it so doesn’t rust. Shines up nice in the dirt.

Eric what is your opinion about 15” corn?
@TheCropCritic7 ай бұрын
I don’t like it but some people are making it work. Corn needs to breathe to be able to cool down. I know some people have tried it and went back to 30”. I just don’t think they have it figured out enough yet for narrow row corn.
@cliffblackburn81027 ай бұрын
Can you weld something on there before that so it's going through the dirt first
@TheCropCritic7 ай бұрын
No. There is no way to better it because of the way it’s designed. Just a all around bad design on their part.
@cliffblackburn81027 ай бұрын
To bad they don't use harden steel for that .. honestly prices for agriculture machinery are ridiculous.. I hope they reach out with a solution 💯✌🏻
@TheCropCritic7 ай бұрын
The bottom is hard steel but the sides are not. They know they have a problem that’s why they offer a high wear knife. I’ve been working with them 3 years now on them and it’s the same results. If I could get away from them I would but there isn’t a better system out there.

Have you ever checked out RK gauge wheel arm clips?
@TheCropCritic7 ай бұрын
Yes. We have to have new arms because of where the mustache rides and wears into them. In the cotton world depth is super critical that’s why I always change arms sooner than other people.
