Kingambit's reliance on Sucker Punch to overcome its speed is also a notable weakness I'd argue - metagame adaptations such as faster Will-o-Wisp, Encore, Iron Defense/Bulk Up and priority users becoming more common have allowed for teams to have more outs vs Kingambit than just Zamazenta and Great Tusk as mentioned

The same guy will run flamethrower over fireblast because fireblast will lose you more games than if you'd just get good with using flamethrower. What amuses me is how shocked people are that bolt/beam is good, and that blissey is good, especially when the "good" they're talking about is "consistently good over thousands of games for their purpose." Fireblast will let you down if you just get better securing KO's with flamethrower.

I'd argue that in the long run, fire blast will out perform flamethrower because it can take KOs sooner. Less turns of opponents being able to use their mons outweighs missing 15% of the time, in my opinion. That said, in a tournament setting where the number of games is limited, the safety of flamethrower is probably preferable.

it's interesting to me how many of these #1 mons were introduced the gen before, at least until gen 7. gen 2's number 1 is a gen 1 mon, gen 3's number 1 is a gen 2 mon, gen 4's number 1 is a gen 3 mon, gen 6's number 1 is a gen 5 mon. demonstrates how the context of the meta as a whole matters with regards to those mons hitting their full potential. every #1 after that point was introduced same gen, which i guess you could say is indicative of the series' power creep really taking off

Yes and no. If you're considering the non box legendaries as candidates for OU, then Gen 3's best would be the Latis and Deo-A, Gen 4's would be Garchomp, Shaymin-S, Darkrai, or Manaphy, Gen 5's would be Genesect probably, and Gen 6 has the monstrosities that are Aegislash, Mega Mence, Mega Kang, Mega Luke, and Mega Gar. So they're only not number 1 because they're super banned *due* to power creep.

I think its worth mentioning that Excadrill and Clef's S+ status in ORAS is mainly because the power level in that gen is skewed towards the megas, and Megas naturally are penalised for their opportunity cost. They're mainly the top mons because they're just so slappable rather than actually meta defining, although Clef could be argued to be somewhat meta defining. I think it would have been worth it to review the top mega, Lopunny, who's a pretty interesting mon in her own right. Getting a massive speed tier, bypassing Ghost immunities, and using fake out to circumvent ORAS' mega speed mechanic/bug, while also having a lot of common mons it completely thuds into, or needs specialised coverage to threaten. Even mons it should theoretically match up well into like Heatran and Ferro often run protect which makes using its main fighting stab risky, especially considering its limited recovery options (HJK sets typically don't run Drain Punch which is its only source of recovery)

I think Snorlax's speed is it's most exploitable weakness. Consider the other main special wall Raikou. If you get it in play it can heal against almost anything at any percent because of how fast it is while Snorlax usually needs to take a hit when it wants to heal because it's slower then everything. A Snorlax that has low HP is a very vulnerable pokemon that cannot handle what it is meant to.

The only thing keeping GSC Snorlax from being the most obvious ban to Ubers of all time is its speed imo. It's by far the best Pokémon in any OU tier, but at very least it's almost always either moving second or getting phazed out, which means there's plenty of room to play around it on a game-to-game basis.

calling great tusk a counter to kingambit is a tad generous lol, it's a check and the difference is significant. tusk isn't a blanket wall to gambit, it has no healing and doesn't resist iron head so it has to preserve hp to even have a chance, and trying to check it offensively often won't work since gambit will often tera in endgames. tusk has a positive matchup, and obviously gambit can't switch into tusk, but gambit can quite easily win the 1v1 over the course of a game

Tauros has the glamorous job of cleaning up games, but Eggy cracks games wide open and is so versatile.

As a Gen 3 player I find that TTar itself is rarely the piece that wins me the game. Its main attribute is permasand but you dont need to bring it for that if your opponent does. Even after a dance it gets revenge killed easily by Aerodactyl and Dugtrio because it's slow and its 6 weaknesses are all over the place. I tend to find other options more appealing personally, so I rarely run it.

i think kingambit relies a lot on tera and you mention that for great tusk, but valiant is also very common and takes no damage from sucker so youre really forced to hold onto that resource if you run into that matchup. for gen 9 atm i feel that zama is the most oppressive personally just because gambit forces you to get sucker/tera plays right whereas zama feels like it only has to find the field at the right time

Both. Gen 2 Snorlax is very manageable. To deal with it you have: -Roar/Whirlwind to stop it from setting up -Rock/Steel Types to wall it -Ghost types to come in and mess with it -Your own Snorlax -Explosion -Fighting types, particularly Machamp It's the best mon for sure but it never feels overpowered within the meta itself, at least as far as I've played

Oof, since the tcg game came out i haven't even checked up showdown, plus i lost all my very hardly made teams somehow and cannot back up, over 150 good teams in the main formats, and I'm too busy 😅 i know I spend hours making one single team and it may be useless as I get into the newer metagames (or simply have bad luck with the chances, is enough having a bit of bad luck on every match to lose them all and feel the team doesn't work when it might even be super well planned) I'm not motivated enough now for all this...
