Interesting video! Thanks for taking us along. Fjord is pronounced as if the j is a y. So, "feh-yord" or "fee-yord." :)

In an answer to why some of the bidding went like it did. A lot of times when a seller "no sales" his horse the auctioneer will ask him what he wants for it, and after hearing his reply, for some reason sometimes there's someone who now is willing to pay more than they would have before. I guess because the owner thinks it worth more, now they do too. But usually the auctioneer will always give the high bidder the chance to raise it. And if the high bidder is online, it's not really possible to explain what all just happened. Hope that makes sense. I've been to 100's of auctions already and it's a pretty common thing

Thank you for the explanation, I too have been to lots of auctions and this is the first time I have seen it multiple times. It’s just people running up the price is all.

@@SFD-Horses Not always people running the price up. As @childoftheking9907 said, people have second thoughts and decide to go a little higher and seller decides to take a little less. It's not that uncommon.

Auctions all over not just animals but vehicles and equipment is where you frequently come across a lot of shady stuff. I always suggest assume the person is lying because there's so many that are untrustworthy that are looking to make a profit from something from someone that doesn't know what's going on.

Please encourage folks to contact their state reps to vote to pass the farming omnibus package. It will include 2 separate laws to protect horses and other farming livestock from cruel practices like being able to castrate animals by non-medically trained people. Let's make life better for our 4 legged friends.

I’ll read into it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I’m sure there’s room to grow and learn, but to make it a law will hurt the smaller operations that 100% know what they are doing. There’s often more then one answer, and once placed in the government’s hands things often get really ridiculous.

@aaronkingston34442 ай бұрын
@@heidinewcombe696 that's a ridiculous law. Farmer's have years of experience in castrating their animals. It's just another attempt to drive up the costs of farming to make meat more expensive and less affordable for the average person.

I'm 57, had horses my whole life and I've been to thousands of sales. I'm a little over an hour west of this one. Mt.Airy is one of the better ones around that has a monthly sale. While there are some trader types there, most of the decent traders have passed on. However, there are still a few. One of my favorite things about this sale is that sellers have the option of selling horse guaranteed sound. When they do, buyers have 72 hours to bring horse back IF there's a soundness problem, not just that buyer regrets the purchase. Sales are the worst place for newer horse people to buy, unless it's one of the big yearly production sales ranches have or a big yearly specialty sale. You will definitely pay more at one of the yearly types, but it's money well spent as you won't find doping and lies. A great yearly sale is the Virginia trail horse sale held in Lexington every April. Horses arrive Thursday, obstacle, trail and cattle work contests on Friday with sale on Saturday. So buyers have 2-3 days to see horses, talk to owners before sale. They all sell with a 48-72 hour soundness/health guarantee. I have my own horses and a small all breed rescue in East Tennessee. Please check with rescues to see if we have suitable horses before buying elsewhere. Most of us are full to bursting now. When we don't have what adopter wants, I refer to other rescues AND 3 traders I know. It doesn't matter to me where someone gets their horse, just that it goes to a good home.

I've been going to auctions for over 30 years, in over a dozen states. Bought, sold, and traded. I'd say about 1/3 of mine don't get "my" price in the ring. Sort of a reserve. Last time it happened, I had an AQHA gelding, 8yrs old, kid safe, sound. Wanted $5500. Highest bid went to $5100. I Saud no sale, the auctioneer asked my price, I said $5500, a bidder offered it. I sold. It goes on in every sale. Standard auctions, don't have a reserve price only option, just a no sale option. If the owner isn't there to say no sale, the horse WILL sell at the highest bid price. That's why owners try to stick around. I know most the kill pen buyers from Canada to Mexico, and they will let me pick through their pens and buy out, at auction price, whatever catches my eye. I respect their job, get along with them, and understand it's a job. No different than a cattle buyer, or other livestock dealer.

Mt. Airy was ringing bells. Is it an auction an account I follow goes to? Map shows N. Carolina so no. AH💡 Childhood home of Andy Griffith, town Mayberry was based on 🥰

So what usually happens in this situation is that the final bidder is the one to offer a higher price in the case that the reserve is not met (and usually not disclosed until the horse no sales in the ring). Sometimes another bidder is like oh okay so thats what theyll take for them, I guess I can swing that, but its usually the final bidder that makes an offer on a no saled horse :)

As a life long "horse trader" it pi%$es me off to see some of the things people say. Yep there are dirt bag traders out there that lie through their tooth, BUT do you think there is a chance in həll I could sell a single horse at an auction I got a rep for lying about my horses!?!?!? I've been in a auction rings since I was a baby, and like MOST traders I depend on a good reputation to make a living. Just like used car lot..... you can make one sell with a lie, or 1000 with the truth.
