Well, it’s about time that mother woke up. It took a whole movie read up to the end. The very very end last five seconds. She drove me crazy and now everything is just fine like nothing ever happened. What a great movie to watch. This is pretty darn good.. Oh well so age doesn’t matter there’s something to think about because I’d be the older one just like Shelly was . I was a kid in the ‘86 so i wouldn’t had watched this back then. ha. However, today, i did, this was a VERY good movie. The ONLY reason this worked is it had top notch experienced talented actors. Ellen, Tuesday Weld and Eli Wallach were great in this film. It was also refreshing not to see the usual May-December romance TV movie ending. It was a light, funny, romantic take on a younger-older relationship. Thanks for posting.

As a single mom with two sons who raised them by myself, I think that the mother is jealous because another woman is influencing her son. It isn't sexual. It's just knowing you aren't the most important in their life anymore. But, mothers have to let go

Why is this such a big deal in this movie?! Men have done it all the time! If the son would be a female of 22 and her boyfriend 42 the mother or society would not be outraged. PS: Even the 42 year old woman's separated husband has a 23 year old girlfriend! But nobody brings this up for comparison or argument. 🧐🙄

Ellen Burstyn was actually a very young looking 53 when this film was made. Victor Borge who played her father was actually 77, as he gently jogged through Central Park. R.I.P Victor (91) died peacefully in his sleep.

I applaud the producers for casting two quality actresses who played their exact age in 1986 (42 and 53). Looking at it through the lens of 2020 the topic/theme is almost laughable (as is much of the dialogue). For starters, the 22 year old son had no business living at home! I'm sure at its time it was valued for dealing with a timely/sensitive topic!

His parents were elderly (yes, his mother had him late in life) and not well educated (neither could read or write -- that wasn't unusual for the times) and he was taking care of them financially. So, even 25+ and still living at home depends on the reason(s).

When I read the review on this film, I expected the typical 1980s sex-laden MILF movie but this was actually more about love and compatibility. Great message that Ellen finally learns only when Eli is in the hospital. Tuesday, not just a beauty, but a great actress. She can match Ellen in this fun flick.

The attitude of the mum in the movie is so typical, men are always ok with this ,woman are not, age is just a number, but its jealous woman like the mum and woman in general who make ti a bigger deal than it has to be. I'm with a way younger man in real life, he was neglected by his mum and she has never bothered with him. His dad bought him up and thinks I'm great and is just happy for his son who has had a string of failed relationships with awful woman, just cause he is to nice, our 'society' is just that , jealous nasty woman with no life, the heart wants what the heart wants, ive been abused by my older foreign ex for years, and men before him and after him, have never related to men my own age or older, even knew younger men when younger. If my son got with a older woman i would not be worried at all. A good movie but the mums attitude stinks.....like most woman she is unhappy is why, we need more real love in this world, and love between different ages especailly the woman been older is amazing, I find it empowering been the older partner, he does not care, most men dont its woman who do.....trouble
