Just found this online, if ya'll find out any more info, let us know: The grave of Mary Sunday, born 1780-died 1865, the witch of Cragford, Al. In a cemetery where all of the graves face to the east, because that's the direction a risen Lord will return from, all the dead in Christ will get up to see His return, Mary's grave is the only that faces north-south. It is said, that you can leave coins or a trinket behind in exchange for your spell or curse request. About 10 years ago, the family had this new stone placed in an attempt to stop those who had been digging dirt from her grave to use in their own spells and curses.

this too: Sunday, Mary 1780-1865 [Mary [?] Boone-Sunday] [Mrs. Mary Sunday buried in this cemetery has been called a witch for many years, because her grave does not face east. There are all kinds of stories about this woman. Here are the facts: She was first married to a man by the surname Boone. They were the parents of Rebecca Boone-McCrary. She lived with her daugther until her death. The McCrarys were a very highly respected family in the area. In 1852 she was listed in a sheriff's sale in Randolph County. Apparently she was involved in a lawsuit with Richard Nolen which she won.]

From Find a Grave.... FAMILY LEGEND: Mary Sunday’s grave is positioned opposite of all the others in the cemetery, so there has been much speculation as to why. Family legend has it that at the time of her death, nearing the end of the Civil War, the able bodied men of the community were away at war with the women left alone to tend to daily life (and death). When Mary died there were Union troops in the area, but the women attending her did not trust the “enemy” to give her a proper burial. Therefore, out of fear and mistrust, they took it upon themselves to bury her under cover of night. Supposedly, in the confusion of darkness, and with only the aid of lanterns, they dug her grave and buried her mistakenly in the wrong direction. The mistake was not recognized until days later when they could safely see their error. This is the story that has been passed down through multiple generations of her descendants.

Thank you for the tour E.A., I enjoy cemetery explores. One of these days I might even see one of my U.S. relatives . That grave was definitely strange for sure.

My research on the way graves would be facing. Most common Christian cemetary graves face east/ west. You rise to the east during resurrection. Witch graves face north/south. Something about dark magic.

When Jesus returns itll be from the east, and the dead in Christ will rise first to meet him in the air.

I was in this cemetery today cleaning 2 stones of the Knight family. Had supper across the street at the community center. Awesome chicken and dumplings. Was told about the witch grave I picked up coins from the ground and put them back.

Very interesting about Mary. The woman our previous house was built for was also known to be a witch by some. She did the table lifting that was popular at the time and was known to help young ladies who were in “trouble” . It was very interesting that there was a camphor tree in the yard and they were definitely not native to the area. She was also a talented fiddle player, ran moonshine, and took a bullwhip to one of her husbands. She was quite the character.

George Rice has a very interesting story, that headstone is a memorial. He died in Europe during WWII and was buried in a mass grave in Neuville-en-Condrez Belgium. He was dis enterred and moved to Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville Kentucky and re interred there on April 28th 1950.

Hello, the lady you were talking about her grave facing the wrong direction lived to be 85 that is a decent age for back then! You’re right tho why aren’t they taking tending to her grave! By the way I love your videos… cheers from Australia 🇦🇺

Lost my friend/neighbor B. earlier this month. I doubt she was a witch any more than this poor old lady was, but she sure was one amazing sculptor/photographer/artist, soul. I miss her tremendously.
