Hi Campers!
Chris here...this week I go camping in the Stanislaus National Forest in Northern California - high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I set up my camp in an awesome campground, cook a great Salmon dinner and tell a scary story about 2 hunters who go up to Idaho and camp for the night. There they have a terrifying encounter with something large that is in the woods behind their camp that does not like them!! Don't Go Out There!!!
PART 1 of 2 VIDEOS!!
Keep Hiking!

You probably already know but, I have to say it. When you put the new Coleman Mantels on, you are supposed to light them with a match and let them burn completely before you turn the gas on. Once cooled...hit the gas and light the match! My dad charged me with this task every time we set up camp. I'm about your age and I still use the old Coleman and stove too. Great story tonight...love every one. Thank you. God bless.

@Base Camp Chris. Hey Chris..no disrespect but, the mantles turning to ash after burning them first is exactly what is supposed to happen. As soon as you turn the gas on and relight the lantern they harden into a nice, rounded shell and last for a long time. But, if you touch them after the burn and before gas...then yes, they will crumble like ash as you said. I hope this helps. Please try and you will see. Love your videos and never miss one. God bless.

Hey I heard a response back. Use headphones and earlier when he showed this area I saw one by the rock edge on other side of stream. It was green morphing into the background foliage. It looked like it had a baby on its back and then front. I could see a lot of details. It’s arm you could see was holding onto something. I use a magnifying glass to see these details

Went for a walk recently in the woods close to my home . After awhile I started to hear weird eerie almost like crying noise I got so creeped out then I looked up and realized it was the trees making that noise . Thank God it was day time because if it was night time I would have thought I was hearing demons 😆 Nature can be so creepy and spooky . Idk how people can camp alone at night, I would be seeing and hearing things just from my imagination alone . Good for you that you can do that 👍

Don't know how you do it, Chris? Tell spooky stories in the thick of it all. Lol I ended up watching this on my break while waiting to unlock my first gate at a remote park on Vancouver Island, in North Saanich. It's pitch black out here. I leave the patrol cR running with headlamps lighting up the parking lot. I work as a graveyard shift mobile security guard driver.

It's about mind over matter and realizing there is nothing there in the dark that isn't there in the light, even if it is Wendigo. I find getting familiar with forest sounds during the daylight hours help people realize this. It also helps to state your intentions before entering any forest telling any resident entities that you are aware of their presence and mean them no harm, so you will accept no harm in return. Try leaving a small offering as part of the process. Always go armed and with tracking because they seem not to mess with armed folks carrying spot devices or others like them. And if after all this you get a strong gut instinct that you aren't wanted there or you're not supposed to be there, listen to your gut and leave, find another forest and repeat or save it for another day. Good luck.

On a hunting trip on private land here in Tennessee (I won’t disclose the area)!we were about 10 miles from anywhere, I kept hearing a BABY cry! It sounded like a human infant! It would stop for a while and then start again but in a different location. I came to a point where the game trail had been blocked with uprooted trees and boulders when I got the butt puckering CREEPS! Then I could hear the baby start crying n the other side of the blockade but closer than I had heard it to that point! I could not get out of there fast enough. If the mother of the baby blocked my path with logs, trees and boulders I couldn’t even roll over, was on the other side? I wanted NOTHING to do with her! I hoped she got her babies colic under control and wished her well while getting my ass out of there! I don’t think my sphincter relaxed until I was sitting in my truck with the doors locked! I’ve NEVER told anyone this until now. I figure folks will think that my cheese slipped off my cracker.

My husband and I recently found your channel and love listening to your stories and viewing the beautiful scenery. He grew up camping in the Sierra Nevada's (especially the El Dorado National Forest) in the 60's and 70's, and I know it makes him nostalgic for the mountains. I have noticed that every once in a while you will tell your viewers what park you are in, but don't mention the state. My husband knows most of the places you go, but sometimes we have to look them up to get oriented. Those of us stuck in flat Ohio sometimes need a bit of help to know where you are! Thanks for posting these - I especially love the cooking parts, because trying to come up with new cooking ideas for camping is challenging. I am interested to know where/how you drain the fat from cooking ground beef while in bear country. Thanks! Keep hiking!

As a kid he learned from his Dad as those "old tech" lanterns and stoves were the big deal like you said, in the 70s. We loved fixing a big breakfast when we camped. Later on he bought a 3-burner Coleman stove at an auction and that thing was great! Nice video. I still believe what people are seeing and hearing are descendants of Gigantopithecus Blacki. Highly intelligent primates. No part-human baloney.

WOW Chris, showing those Coleman mantels just gave me some warm & fuzzy flashbacks! I am a just little tiny bit older than you, but the memories are pretty much the same. My grandparents even had a fold out camper. I was not interested in sleeping in it, I wanted my tent! I used to make comments like; "Why go camping when you are just bringing everything from home, anyway?" Golly I was such a mouthy 10 yr old!!! LOL I'd get the back of my deserving head "popped" more than a time or a few! (chuckling) It cracks me up when people take their "mobile hotel suites on wheels", complete with apartment sized washer/dryer, built in heater and A/C, 2 - 4 burner stoves, microwave, water heater, shower, toilet, TV's, laptops, cell phones, DVD players, curling irons, hair dryers, sheets, comforters , a library video games with player and call it camping. These things are camping gear? In what way is this camping? It takes folks several days to pack up each time they go, and by the time they finish packing, it's nearly time to come home so they have enough time to unpack and rest before going back to work. LMBO! Oh well, to each their own, just my opinions, never a judgement! If it makes 'em happy, then have FUN and go for it! (silly grins) I'll bring my tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, small cooler with food, I MUST have my old feather pillow and I can't forget utensils with a skillet, I like cooking over a wood campfire. OH! almost forgot - A couple rolls of the camping TP because no job is finished until the paper- work is done and it's just nice to have, too. (wicked grins) I prefer to have some changes of clothing, camp needs to be set up near a stream or creek to wash up in, a compact mirror to comb my hair and call it good! The RV crowd call it "roughing it", I'm okay with that. LOL Just wanted to share some of my thoughts on "camping", hope it's okay? Rosey, loving life in the boondocks of Freeville!

Big fan of Base Camp Chris. Gotta be my favorite video. It's because I love the 1970s camping gear too! A very fun time to be a kid and camp. Oh ! Starting a retro camping line would be fun

Both hunters realizing their guns were no match for what they were hearing caused their next actions-- get near and in the truck! Saved them, maybe.

These stories are amazing. The forest is so vast and filled with mystery. I'm still surprised that we never caught a bigfoot and it does seem odd that we just don't have "real" evidence of their existence outside of low quality videos and accounts from strange people lol.

Not just "strange" people, lots of reliable normal people have seen them. See stories by How to Hunt, etc..

HAAA! I have a Coleman lantern & stove! Leftover from my old camping days, but great when the power goes off in the winter! I was the one who just had to touch the canvas tent during a rain! My now ex said, "what did you do??" Luckily the sleep bags dried out the next day. We did dirt bikes in the White mtns of eastern AZ!💖

I grew up with the old Hurricane lanterns as well as in later years we had the Primus pump up kanterns. Only problem with them was the mantles mostly didn't last as they broke so yes always a ready supply of spares. Stunning campsite Chris with the river backdrop and a nifty canyon area. Looking forward to Part 2 mate. Bushyboy Oz.

Those mantles break if you bump the lamp. I still have one of those lamps and a pack of spare mantles.

Happy independence day Chris and followers! I put this video off until tonight because I think this channel is special! Thank you for another fantastic story It's really beautiful there! I grew up in the 70's and we went camping alot here in Texas. Matter of fact, Huntsville State Park was our go to place and there have been lots of Bigfoot stories out of there. I wish we had run into one. Hmm maybe not. Lol

Wow, these hunters must have been terrified! Fascinating story - you got an amazing talent for recounting what happened, the details about the tent, the lantern and the truck make it all come alive! Peanut beer - wow, so interesting, there seems to be a lot of things that can be put into beer, I always thought it was just hops. There is also something from fish that gets added to beer, to improve its appearance. Makes you wonder what you are drinking, lol... I have to say, I'm always glad when your videos get released - not just for the stories but also because that way, we know you are safe and that no Sasquatch has gotten to you. Happy 4th of July everyone!

Chris, this reminds me of shark cage diving where they throw buckets of chum in the ocean to draw the sharks in close to the cage so people can be up close to the sharks.....you cooking Salmon in the very spot where there have been several BIGFOOT SIGHTINGS!😬😖 you are very brave Chris!

Hi Chris, The pic of the tent brought me back to yesteryear LMAO… I remember camping as a young boy, my brother & I would sleep on bunk beds as in two cots connected my brother 7-years younger slept in bottom bunk me above… Can you believe I still have this tent in the original carry bags, no rips, tears, holes & zippers all work, unbelievable. I do remember have to help my Dad set it though & he’d get frustrated with me then once or twice yelling, I always dreaded this part! I remember camping & the wind & rain storms that lasted days we had to stay inside the tent but it was so big you could move around easily! Keep up the reports love em & your style, Take care, Allen Forbus

Love the story telling ! Here's an idea for you ... when you're enjoying your beer & the taste is great... try adding a little into your pork or beef & veggies / potatoes when you cook them . Not only does It add flavor but it helps to cook the food tender a little faster than just with oil . ;)
