The way Brian is touching Kenya is the way every man should caress his woman. 💖💞

💗💗💗He killed the moment when he asked her about her hair. There's a lot of self-esteem, self-worth, self-image tied to hair. And it was just culturally insensitive for him to have asked her that at all. The moment he asked about her hair was the moment he stopped being fully present with her. He could have asked a different time or better yet, not at all. And allowed her to decide when she would like to reveal more layers of thyself as well as allow more of her own vulnerabilities to be seen. It was such a beautiful moment with him cherishing and adoring her. I just wish he was culturally conscious cuz then the scene could have became juicier.😍💗💗💗

Also, I highly doubt he would have asked that with a white woman. Cuz we all know white women wear extensions and it blends in so well that people never think to challenge nor question them the way they do black women.

I can understand where your coming from, but I'd rather him ask out of curiosity than say something insensitive it's better to be educated than ignorant right? And for him maybe he really wanted to know I think as black women we shouldn't be too sensitive about it/ b/c whether its natural or we bought its our hair, you don't like it there's the door. No need in dating somebody who won't respect you.

I totally disagree with you. I would understand if he'd asked about her hair in a condescending/insensitive way, but he was very respectful with it and was only curious. Kenya's reaction stemmed mostly from the fact that she was not comfortable with the newness of the relationship (dating a white guy for the first time). I believe if Kenya had always been opened to dating outside of her race she would've received his questions very differently.

@@theresa4863 yeah like if it were me i wouldn’t care, but think of how she was brought up. her mom clearly wanted her to cover herself up and present more white, so her natural hair has been taught to be wrong, so she would get defensive when told to take out her weave. whereas we live in a society that celebrates black hair, so if it were me, i wouldn’t give af 🤷🏽‍♀️

@@i_violetexpress_i If you watched the entire movie, you would know that even Kenya's mom thought that was her actual hair. If you can recall the scene where her mom says "you cut your hair" and Kenya responds "mom that was a weave." So, no her mom never encouraged her to present herself as white. Her mom clearly didn't even want her dating white. I thought Alfre Woodard did a great job portraying her mother. The irony is Alfre Woodard has been married to a white guy for almost 40 years. Bet she's heard it ALL, from the time they dated and throughout their marriage...from both ends.

Perhaps Brian could have worded it better?? There is always two sides to every story. Maybe Brian went on to feel Kenya hair and thought I wonder what Kenya's hair feels like once the extensions are removed?? Cannot blame the guy for asking as long as Brian was not being condescending and cleary Brian was not!! Hence, *"I did not mean to offend you.. I just wanted to know what you looked like naked." Translation: No makeup- No Mascara - No lip gloss - No eyeshadow - No extensions*

I find it completely weird too the way he came at her. Obviously when ur wit that someone ur in bed wit u will love everything bout this woman and I really mean everything. It doesn't mean she has extensions or a weave or having unreal hair. Bottom line is u don't ask something like he did and come at her the way he did. If u love her u love every inch of her no matter wat

@ Sonja that’s the thing about black culture though, we’ve had to deal with a lot of stigmas within our culture and externally regarding our hair texture, which has contributed to many self esteem issues (I’ve dealt with it myself). This discussion needed to be had because love isn’t just “we’re all people let’s be one”, it’s understanding how our experiences impact the people we’ve become. Brushing aside things like this becomes a problem, he needs to learn where she’s coming from with that.
