12:09 Grass stores its energy in the first couple inches of the stem, so you want to cut it high enough to leave those energy stores intact. In contrast, alfalfa stores its energy underground, so there's no reason to leave an intact stem.

Hi Pete, if you need an idea for a video.. As someone who knows how to drive a car with a stick, a motorbike and a lawnmower, I feel completely lost trying to understand how you work the tractor controls. Handlever for gas? A different engine rpm for the pto? Do you start in gear 1 and switch gears when departing and increasing in speed, or do you pick a gear and stick to it? What I would love to see is a 'tractor driving 101' on the different systems you have there :-)

Great video Pete. Varied and interesting. Would you do a run down on all your tractors? Things like what model they are, the engine, each one’s capabilities, what you use them for, how old they are, how long you have had them whether they (each one) are just farm tools or do they have a special place in your heart and anything else interesting about them. Hope that you can, I’m looking forward to seeing this video! Oh yes, congratulations on the new truck. I’m sure that it will be a great asset to the farm for many years to come.

Hi Pete, Another great video! I know the feeling of getting tired of fixing cars and trucks. We normally drive a vehicle for a long time (last one for over 10 Years) and there's a point where fixing it isn't good use of time. We too bought new and it was a huge change. Just running the radio takes an engineering degree. Hope you enjoy your new truck!

I’ve owned trucks most of my life. I was 5’ 4” now I’m 5’ 2”. I’m 71 1/2. When your short you see better in a pickup. I waited 16 years for a new used pickup. Bought 2014 with low miles in 2019. It’s a GMC. No payments. Saved till I had enough. Love ❤️ the blue of your truck. Mine is burgundy. My brother has a farm truck 1971 3/4 ton C-10. He’s put a little money in it and it’s a work horse. I never saw a truck hold weight like his does. We carried 50 cases of water in it and it didn’t squat hardly any. It pulls fertilizer wagons like nothing. Its a standard shift and 4 wheel drive. It’s a camper special. He has restored a couple hundred old Chevys. He also has an 81 1/2 ton pickup. They are really easy to work on. I’m still learning about all the do dads.

Congratulations on the new truck! We faced that mountain a year ago. I had two trucks, a 1993 f250 and 2002 Ram 2500. Both were closing in on 300,000 miles and maintenance was getting expensive. I finally bit the bullet, we spent a big portion of our budget on a 2014 Ram 2500 diesel. It has wonderfully replaced the other two trucks. They both retired themselves shortly with the new truck picking up their duties and more, allowing us to grow some.

When my dad was small grandpa had a big pig and was going to haul it to the sale. It was a hot day in Kansas and he felt sorry for the hog. He turned the hose on it, went in the house for a minute and came out and the pig was dead. He felt so bad besides the fact that they were broke. He never raised pigs again. The shock from the hose down put the pig in shock.

Hello Pete and Hillary, I just want to say how much I love your videos and how much I love the positivity of the two of you whenever you’re talking and working on the farm. I think you represent what real farming is about. I have enjoyed your videos for sometime now and I look forward to them so much not only because they are much like how far in life was when I was on the farm but because you’re always teaching us and it’s always exciting, but you always make me smile while I’m watching your videos, and sometimes I actually laugh out loud like on this video. Pete you had me laughing while you were painting yellow rims… And then you had me laughing out loud over the joke about the Bear Charging you… I know some people are saying oh that’s a dumb joke but I thought it was hilarious and I’m still chuckling about it! My heart is heavy for all of the cattle that was lost in Kansas due to the heat and as you walk through your field and we’re talking to your cows in the shade I was glad for Iowa land and any Area that has any kind of trees and trees for the livestock. I lived in Kansas for 25 years approximately and out west it is almost like an oasis before you see a tree except a cedar tree and they don’t or not known for shade. I used to drive 4 1/2 hours across the state to see my sister down in the southwest corner in north west corner actually moved after about 12 years & I learned to pack appropriately in case of an emergency whether it be water for the car or water for the kids and I or a blanket or two extra and definitely food because there was no fast food for hours and then it was limited at a gas station two greasy hotdogs and steel chips so bring your own was my theory and I have plenty of activities for the road trip because the children would be bored within 20 minutes as it was nothing to look at it after but grain silos and feedlots! Congratulations on your new pick up truck. I think more people should drive your vehicle for 17 years! I am wondering if you will have a harder time working on this new computer truck. I remember when my Dad got a new Chevrolet and he was very frustrated because he said for the first time he’d have to take certain parts into the dealer to work on because they had made it to where the average man could no longer fix his own vehicle. And that was over 20 years ago. That was long before the pushbutton car or truck came out!! Baby pigs are looking really nice and I’m glad to see that they’re all still alive😊❣️❣️ obviously, mama is still doing well and hasn’t lost any weight. It’s nice to see all your baby calves doing well, also. Last we all just need to be praying for rain for the country because there is such a drought going on everywhere and you have some of the most delicious looking feels of anyone I’ve seen and I think you should be proud of the hard work you’ve done to keep your fields looking so nice. Thank you& God bless you both for all the hard work you do and being the people that you are. You do make a difference in our life of this I’m sure😊🌈♥️♥️
