I adore this album but I hate one thing - she didn't include Bad Girl to this compilation. That fantastic ballad would suit it perfectly. Also, another beautiful song was recorded for this compilation album - I Can't Forget. Unfortunately, Madonna didn't add it as well

Personally, I feel that Madonna's ballads are even better than her dance and more upbeat material. Her ballads are amazing. But, "You'll See" is EPIC!

From her 12 #1's , 4 are ballads! And she probably has 10+ ballads in the Top ten of Billboard Hot 100!! Frozen and I'll remember were #2!! Not bad for a "disco- dance" artist!! That's why she's the Queen of Pop, She's versatile, she can do anything!!

There are songs in which she is credited as the sole artist but there are also songs in which she is credited alongside other actors. Watching the full movie or listening to the entire soundtrack is the best way to understand and follow the story. It's very much a narrative. But maybe start by reacting to the solo Madonna songs and a few of the duets and then watch the film afterward. Here are my suggestions/picks: Buenos Aires Another Suitcase in Another Hall I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You Don't Cry for Me Argentina Rainbow High Waltz for Eva and Che You Must Love Me Lament And don't forget to check out the Miami Mix of Don't Cry for Me Argentina. She re-recorded the vocals for the remix (while pregnant) and it reached the Top 10 on Billboard.

You can check German singer Sandra too. She was named "European Madonna" in the 80's and early 90's. Her voice isn't strong but is really recognizable and unique.

I Want You was recorded after Bedtime Stories when she experimented with Trip-hop. Massive Attack is amazing. Still around making music, too.

This was not an apology for sure, human nature on bedtime stories made it clear that she doesn't regret her outrageous eras. This album was reminder to the people that she can be a balladeer too. It was also a sign of her growing vocal range which she showcased on her next two albums. This was her transition record before the dramatic transformation that she was going to take.

I already liked Madonna as a kid and listened to several songs, I may have even watched parts of the Blonde Ambition tour, BUT, I became OBSESSED with her when I heard “Verás”. I usually hate Spanish versions of English songs (or any translation to any language really) because the lyrical content is usually poorer since the beats of the song were designed to go with the English lyrics so they have to choose words to go with the beat and keep the message and most of the time translators just pick simple and even awkward sentences that are far less powerful than the original. That’s so not what happens in “Verás”. The prose is beautiful, the message is clear and powerful and Madonna’s pronunciation is good, she puts the correct inflection in the right words and syllables so while I do hear a slight accent she is not making the sentences sound odd, she adds the feeling to the correct places where a Spanish born singer would. And the music is just beautiful. I love that song.

You'll see is like a second part of Take a Bow, watch both videos. My dream would be a Madonna concert of ballads only. Her ballads are so beautiful they deserve a stand alone concert.

Protection and Mezzanine are also great. Madonna was initially asked to sing on "Teardrop" and wanted to very badly. That track was a big influence on Ray of Light (you can hear it on "Drowned World").

Another solid review, her ballads are so beautiful and her lyrics speak to me more than any other female singers. She has a unique voice which doesn't require acrobatics and simply tells a story. This allows her to concentrate on the meaning of the song rather than show off and therefor the meaning is lost. It was a big hit album and allowed people to concentrate on her talents rather than her uncanny ability to provoke. With regard to Evita there were two editions, the full soundtrack and the black and white cover which basically gives you the full story. if you can review the whole album it will give you a better understanding of its theme and she sings as Eva on many songs with Antonio too. Be prepared for a masterpiece, Rainbow high and a new Argentina give me chills x x much love as always from the UK xx

To tell the truth.. I love Madonna ballads more... most of her ballads tracks are strong, full of passion, soulful and her vocal in those track are killing me. The album didn't hit top spot is US and UK but top spot in Asia region

I hit the like button on this video before even watching it! :) You’re right that there was a media backlash during the Erotica era, so with Something to Remember (and Bedtime Stories) she deliberately adopted a more mellow image and she was also preparing to star in Evita. At the time, I found this era a little boring because I missed Madonna’s dance music, but now I realize that some of my favorite Madonna songs are her ballads. I recently made my own playlist of her ballads because this compilation was missing some of my favorites, especially Spanish Eyes (my fave Madonna song)!

‘You’ll See’ is perfection. Madonna is known for her dance/pop hits but her true strength is her ballads. ‘Time Stood Still’ is a personal favourite that isn’t very well known. It’s from The Next Best Thing soundtrack Massive Attack and Madonna released the two best albums of 1998. Madonna - Ray of light and Massive Attack - Mezzanine. I don't think Madonna would ever apologize or plead to the public, critics or the media. She may have been orchestrating a more mature public image as she was desperately trying to land the role for Evita. But as she says in Human Nature. "I'm not sorry, its Human Nature" and in the vidoe looking directly at the camera and stating. "Absolutely no regrets".
