Dieppe was Tragic, and very sad, much not helped by the support Tanks unable to get the Traction needed to get off the Beach. My Friend and Neighbour Humph, was in the Royal Navy desperately trying to get the Troops off, with the attempted Evacuation seriously hindered by a Sniper picking them off. So Humph was sent ashore to Deal with the Sniper. He was successful, and was shocked to find he knew the guy, recognising him as someone who was on the same Officers Course as Humph in Dartmouth College before the War. That is something people today don't appreciate, is the extent to which the Nazis had I filtrated the Military and Political Parties of Britain, France, etc, prewar. The extent to which they had particularly infiltrated the whole Logistics infrastructure, was pretty much behind causing the fall of France. In Combat, for example, for every Rifle daily ammunition supply needed to be at least 200 rounds a day, but they were lucky if they got 25 rounds. It was so bad, Winston Churchill took a Parliamentary Committee down to London Docks, to find out if anything had even been sent. Prior to Shooting the last Nazi Spy in Britain, the Allies didn't Win a Battle, After, they pretty much didn't lose one. I tried getting Humph to write a book about his WW2 experiences, as he was involved in some pretty incredible things, including being the lot man aboard the Aircraft Carrier Ark Royal as it was being Scuttled. Sadly lost touch with Humph, as his daughter got him to move down to Hampshire as his Smallholding had become too much for him to stay on any longer. A great guy. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍

@@alexandermenzies9954 I just wonder how far Canada is away from France and why they joined the war. Fact is that France declared war on Germany. Not Germany on France. That doesn't mean that this war was something I consider as an appropriate solution to solve problems in any way. But did Germany attack Canada? If not what did these men do on the shore in France so far away from home? Just a question. Nothing more or less. By the way.. after so many decades passing by ... do you not think that also geman soldiers only may have followed orders? The same orders the Canadian soldiers followed? We should stop making differences between humans. Germans are humans too. As human as their Canadian counterparts are. Also as human as you are. No matter which nationality you have. Who has more rights to live? The Germans? The Canadians? Or are we all just humans? I don't like these comparisons and that it was heroic to die for your country and especially that the others were the evil guys. There is no such thing like honor in a war. Is there something honorable to find in humans killing other humans? Really? If so.. who is the one who says that you deserve to live and somebody else not?

Volvo should have a specification for belt tension. There is a tension gauge called Krikit, I believe available world wide. Without the tension gauge you can measure tension with a straightedge and a ruler. You need the deflection amount of the belt from Volvo. Volvo seems to be behind times by not having a spring loaded belt tensioner. Possibly there is a retrofit spring loaded tensioner available that you could add. I believe the belt must be tighter than you are making it. Personally, my spares kit would include a water pump with a set of hoses, one of each alternator and a belt for each. Keep up the good work, JIM

Yes, the alternator is on the other side on our D2 75. This was a bespoke accessory kit from Volvo Penta with Mastervolt alternator. I've also put a charging switch in to isolate the charge if required. Our MAstervolt 24v alternator also has a separate controller, we inherited this but I've yet to change to lithium... All the kit, including monitoring equipment is super expensive which has put me off, to say nothing of the batteries. Lead acid is less than a quarter of the price! The big down side with AGMs is the shear weight of the things, all tucked up in the bow on this boat. A DIY solution is the only option, with prismatic cells... we'll see. Good luck with your setup. Great video.

If you change the position of the two alternators you must keep the pulley ratio the same therefore changing the alternators and their respective pulleys together. The setup is designed to have the alternators turn at a correct RPM. Without being there to see the situation, I can not say if that is possible. Sometimes there are clearance issues as well as offsets that come into play. I just want you to know what to consider. Might be prudent to tackle this job in a large port city with many services available, like machine shop. JIM

Johan, Can you place an idler pulley on the 24V alternator belt. Placed between the water pump pulley and the alternator, it would make more wrap on both. You would do yourself a favor by swapping the alternators. It would improve the pulley engagement percentage AND take the extra load off of the water pump bearings. Also in both cases it would reduce the wear on the belts. Also spring loading the belts for both sides would help keep tension under control but may not be easy to do on that application. What amp alternators do you run 12v and 24v ?? (;-) TP
@wizardgmb3 жыл бұрын
One negative consideration for swapping the alternators might be temperature. If the harder working alternator is higher up in the compartment, it will be subject to more engine heat in addition to its own prodigious heat production. If you have a heat probe or an infrared measurement gun, you might consider checking both alternators under no electrical load after the engine has been running at an elevated RPM with the compartment closed. Can you swap the alternators without invalidating the Volvo Pena warranty? It might be worth having a dealer make the swap to keep the warranty valid. Just don't let on you have seen a prohibition on the swap in the documentation! The prohibition may be as simple as preventing an idiot from connecting the 12V wiring to a 24V source, something that having a dealer modification should aleviate.
@jackdbur3 жыл бұрын
Or its just so Volvo sells more belts and pumps. If cooling is an issue add a 12v ducted blower to cool the 24v alternator & place a heat shield between it and the engine.

would it be better just putting on a larger pulley on the 24-volt alternator i had to on a vehicle i had the one that the part stores had been the wrong pulley
@jackdbur3 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferwhite6089 that would change the rpm range of the alternator not a great idea.
@wizardgmb3 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferwhite6089 If one puts a larger pulley on the alternator, the greater circumference results in more belt contact but more belt travel is necessary to achieve the same amount of pulley rotation. At the same engine speed the larger pulley will rotate slower and produce less electricity than the existing pulley. Alternators are usually specified for minimum and maximum operating speeds so one shouldn't operate outside that range. The pulley size is usually sellected to ensure greater than minimum alternator speed at engine idle. With most engines the maximum alternator speed isn't a problem.
@tommac95783 жыл бұрын
Instead of swapping the alternators. Get a longer belt for the 24v alternator and add a coaster tensioner pully. This would give you more pully surface area which you wanted.
