Im a nomad who travels around the country and after exploring every state, south Dakota is definitely the most underrated state when it comes to natural beauty. The black hills rival stuff youd see in the rockies. Add in the badlands and windcave and its breathtaking.

I live in S.Dakota and yes, we do have several problems. Wages are very low in most of the state, however real estate is expensive, and property taxes are quite high. And most other things from food to household goods are more expensive now like everywhere else. Gov. Noem has tried to implement some changes but the S.Dakota legislature is quite happy to continue to just push up property taxes and not bring in other sources of revenue for the state. They don't even do things like increase number of camping spots which is cheap to do.

We are retired into a motorhome, and went to quite a number of states this year, including an extended stay in South Dakota. You are nailing this video. South Dakota really, really needs to share the wealth they make from tourism, and they really, really don't. Also, while very happy to have tourists, they are much less happy having people either move there or have legal domiciles in South Dakota.

Lived in South Dakota almost all my life and the beautiful nature will always keep me coming back no matter where I go! Most people (rightfully so) focus only on West River SD and the Black Hills area with the incredible views on Needles Highway, mountains, forests, multiple caves, and Badlands National Park. But even areas in East River have underrated nature spots, especially Falls Park in Sioux Falls and along the Missouri River on the southeastern corner of SD! And when you factor in the cost of living, it’s by no means a perfect state but it’s just about as good as you can get for a peaceful place to live❤ any time I complain about living here my friends always remind me I don’t know how good we have it here, far away from most of the chaos

South Dakota is a place you are born, grow up and leave. Statistically speaking the state's population is growing with 2021-22 data saying that 29,000 moved into the state with 75% of those people aged 55+. During that same time 23,000 moved out of state, most of those in their 20's. The people who have families and go on family vacations are in their 30's and they would rather go to those popular tourist spots. SD's tourist destinations would be more appropriate for older Americans.
