“We had a call with Vince at home, and we were talking about the preliminary plans for WrestleMania. I know there’s this romanticized story about how Eddie was going to get the title, and that was the plan that he was going to get it that night or at Survivor Series. That wasn’t the plan. I think Stephanie said that, or alluded to it on the air, and that was not the plan. The plan was that he would lose, and I think they were going to return in December. We had talked about a fascinating idea; I’m not the biggest Bruce Pritchard fan, but to his credit, I believe it was Bruce Prichard who pitched putting Eddie Guerrero at WrestleMania against Shawn Michaels and doing the parallels of their careers. Being the heartthrob in Mexico and this mercurial figure south of the border, and the American version being HBK. They had never really worked, and you would’ve had such a great dynamic between the two with heel Eddie versus Shawn. That’d be your ‘tear the house down,’ high quality match at WrestleMania 22 in Chicago. Vince was like, ‘God damn, that’s really appealing. We could parallel their careers. What kind of footage of Eddie do we have outside of WCW? We could really do some impressive packages." SOURCE: The Court Bauer & John Pollock Show November 14, 2013

Mysterio was BOO'd for the same reason as "Die Rocky Die". He was overpushed . . . down everyone's throats. I was boo'ing him too. Winning the Rumble from the starting-bell was too much. Nobody could believe that. Instead of giving him credibility, it worked against him, because he was a high-flier and not an endurance-man. It just smacked of "he's the chosen one" . . . but, why? If Mysterio had entered the Rumble, say, #10, or #15, and won, that would have been more believable, and he'd have had less heat at WrestleMania.

UNPOPULAR OPINION:: WrestleMania 22 is Overrated in my opinion. I used to enjoy this WrestleMania back in the day when I was in High School. However, as I get older, I like it less & less. One of the reasons why I started to dislike this WrestleMania is because of the matches that COULD HAVE BEEN instead of what we ended up with. Batista was injured so we didn't get to see him go against Randy Orton. John Cena should have face Edge and Triple H should have went against Mick Foley. And had Eddie Guerrero not passed away, we could have seen Eddie versus Shawn Michaels. Imagine that dream match. Not to mention I wasn't a fan of the Chicago crowd. This WrestleMania is known as HEELAMANIA because most of the faces were booed whereas the heels were cheered. John Cena was booed, Rey Mysterio was booed even though he was doing it for the late Eddie Guerrero, and even Trish Stratus was booed over Mickie James. I remember hearing JR. saying something like, "This crowd must have come from the insane asylum!" There was a old wrestling forum from 2006 where the Smarks were HATING ON JR. & saying things such as "WE CAN BOO AND CHEER WHOEVER WE WANT!!" I think some fans like this WrestleMania because it was the last one held in an arena. After this, all of the WrestleManias in the future would be held in stadiums. I don't hate WrestleMania 22 but I don't like it as much as I use to.
