Cool bit of history. I didn’t know about Oliver Iron Age implements. Don’t feel bad about buying it. You’re saving history and I’m sure most of your viewers (me included) have the same problem of buying iron we don’t need. When you get it sorted, maybe plant some sweet corn with it. Maybe check with the Floyd County Iowa museum for info.

They will probably have manuals and that’s about it. They don’t have much info on implements thanks to White motor.

Lockwood was and still is a big name in potato equipment I've used to operate that name product in Colo. Monte Vista. may be a good place to start, seen lots of old equipment still setting around farms and back lots of Lockwood dealership. Not much ir any rust in that country also. Good luck on your restoration

Greetings. from Aroostook county Maine. My grandfather and my father had the first Iron Age potato planters . Three different models. My father had the model you have with potato boxes and I had a 426 Lockwood 4 row potato planter. My guess is Lockwood Graders purchased Oliver Iron Age in or around early 1960.

I'm guilty of rescuing old interesting stuff, too. We just finished restoring an MF65 utility. What do I then see on Facebook Marketplace about 200 miles away in New York state? A barn-kept, barely-used MF 61 1-row mounted picker with the correct brackets. I so want it but I have to keep telling myself there's no room in the shed and the money is better used elsewhere . . . . .

My dad had an Oliver potato planter in the early 80's. I, like you, thought that's what this was when I saw the thumbnail. Cool find. As far as over accumulating projects, somebody has to save them and at least in your hands it's safe from the scrappers. Nothing wrong with hoarding the good stuff.

Lockwood bought the A. B. Farquhar Iron Age planter design from White after they bought Oliver. The Lockwoods are the exact same design as the Iron Age planters with the planter and fertilizer boxes updated. So if you can get ahold of them they would likely be your best bet at getting the missing parts

Antigo Wi is use north east of me like 40 miles that is some potato country up there as is just south east of me like 60 miles around plover/Plainfield Wi it’s sandy soil perfect for truck crops. It’s neat to see all the Oliver stuff I see around me different areas have some different specialty equipment along with the normal everyday.

Thats cool |Thanks for sharing it, don't be under the impression you've got to restore everything to perfect condition. I use to be like that with tractors when I was younger, now just saving them and getting them running if I can is enough. I'll even just save them and pass it on to somebody else as long as they aren't a dealer selling for instant profit, im thinking 2 County's and 3 Fordsons will leave here before next spring. You've saved a rare piece of equipment , now think of some younger guys and even older ones, that have a serious drinking ,drug, or gambling habit. They aren't paying child support they should be on 6 kids, are stealing stuff to fund a habit or don't even know what day it is and blow the whole lot peeing it away. You earn what you've got work hard and can see where the money went when you walk in a field or one of the yards you or dad owns. You bought what you wanted, and don't have to explain it to us as Dumb $#!T we totally get it from our own experiences. Take care

@@Oliver66FarmBoy I get that just like the spreader, I'm just saying maybe just leave it original and don't restore it,if you find the missing bits. Just be happy you saved it from scrap and show it as it is, so people still get to see it. If you aren't going to actually use it to earn income like your other working machines It's still basically a cool machine and near barn find patina like your baler is. It won't be buying the equipment that's your expensive problem. it will be the aircraft hanger to store all the restored stuff in. That's why I'm thinning mine out because it's all outside, and I can't restore it and keep it inside. My building has to earn my living as a workshop not collection storage.
