Prince tutorials are hard to find, harder to learn and impossible to master. 💜

Before going to the C sharp min7, lead to it with B7flat9 with the flat9 on the bottom string which is a semitone leading-note to the C sharp min7. It works better, sounds lovely and sounds right

I find it easier when I play the E chord to use the pinky and ring for the 4 and 5 string and middle finger on the 3rd string so you can just slide them down to the fourth fret to play the f#7sus and just add the index. Not sure if that’s what Prince did since he’s a freaking Virtuoso! But it forsure helped the speed in transition, hope this helps!

Good lesson, can't be touched after so many years. Though too hard for me. I play it simple intro first this is on ultimate guitar. Then E, Fsharp minor, then A then repeat but end with Aadd9 577600 instead of A chord. Good enough for a mess around. Though original version also has Wendy on guitar. So 2 amazing guitarists one a little weird, very difficult to get it on with one 🎸😅

To do easier with the Bb6/9. Keep the shape of the F#7 then add the 6/9 with your little finger. Sounds better because you replace the octave by the minor 7th. ;))

hey very very good. But me the first chord instead of doing E-B-E-G#-B-E, I do E-B-F#-G#-B-E. In the E chord I do F# instead of E on the 3 string I think It sound more PRINCE.Thank you very much for your video.
@thejaseguitar6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree. I based this on a live version, but the recorded version has that lovely arpeggio with the added F# :)
@inspectorbudget5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you want to teach the song correctly use the studio version. Tired of people shitting on the chordal detail of Prince's work. It matters. Just like so many butcher the chords to Purple Rain. The most annoying is the plain F Maj chord which is obviously not that straight.
@thomasrosendahl27837 жыл бұрын
Let me just say to the people wondering why Prince mostly uses Chords like Maj7,maj9, and 7sus4 and so on. His father was a Jazz pianist and he said so himself, that he got inspired by him early on (6-7 years old i think). That is the great thing about him, many other rock or pop artist dont have the same imagination by a long shot. There is a reason that Herbie Hancock covered Thieves in the temple, and have spoken highly of him. can i ask if this song is suitable for a beginner at guitar? i play piano/keyboard at know alot of music theory.
@thejaseguitar7 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas. The first time I saw Prince he played some jazz piano in the set. It was clear he had a real mastery of and understanding of music. Miles Davis also spoke highly of high. The song is probably suitable for a beginner who has passed the stage of learning barre chords. :)

Great job Jason , thank you so much ! But that ain't so easy when you get to the tricky Bb6/9 in my opinion , for people with small hands like me ( prince used to play this chord with the thumb) , a solution would be the Bb sus 2 ... what d'you think ?
@thejaseguitar8 жыл бұрын
That should work, you're still getting the Bb tonality with the C adding some colour.
