Really enjoy your videos! Just wondering with the bales - you need to add paint and or grease to keep the birds off - do they not make bale bags from a material that is a deterrent for wildlife? Seems a lot of additional work for you to keep the bales pest free.

When we were kids it was easy to steal from farms.They used to leave gear all over the place. One summer we rode three horses bareback out our of a farmer's field. The abbatoir was about a mile away where they were turned into glue and dog food. The guy gave us £30 each for the horses which was quite a lot of money for a kid in those days.

Things are never easy Adrian but all is well that ends well, was the young yin working the drone for you, looked good, grass has kind off got away from you in that one paddock, why not move the big post over to where your small gate is an do away with the small spacer bar because that looks like it would almost be enough to catch your secured gate looks like a 10ft gate and a 12ft would just about do, any way every one has different ideas, great video as usual, good luck to you and the family

Firstly, every farmer stackes bales differently. I do the 1st row upright, then the next 2 on there sides. If wetter silage maybe only 2 row. Don't like doing 2 / 3 rows of bales on there side as sometimes they don't keep as well or the bottom gets squished. Bales are kepted on fine stone. On rougher areas I put plastic down 1st.

The add on at the end was A -typical of a farmers day Adrian. Cattle break out all the time be it greener grass or a fox or what ever startles them. Your stock stayed calm or so it seemed and were content. Question for ya, the windmills/wind turbines I saw while local and are in the background of the videos - where/what does the power generated supply and are solar panels atop shed roofs a thing yet? Could they power the power washers or lighting?
@IFarmWeFarm2 жыл бұрын
We can see 4 different wind turbine farms from our place, there powering into the national grid, I would know much else about them lad. Most solar panels in our parts would be to generate water only. But there are people and companies starting to broaden there use.

just an idea if you are still thinking of putting up the crush on the far wall of the collecting yard which is the cubicle shed wall is that if you had the head locking barrier before the channel to turn left down towards the cubicle shed that if you had two small gates the size of the channel that closed in to make the crush longer and an opening into the main yard, silage pit yard area then that way cows could go straight out to grass after they are milked and get that 2 hrs extra on grass each day, some of them anyway not all of course would get the hr
@IFarmWeFarm2 жыл бұрын
Yes I had thought of that one before, just never got around to doing it. Can’t wait to get that new crush in for a start and then possibly we could do just what you said Cillian 👍

Just a little idea to keep the birds away from the bales. Get 4 sticks. 1 per corner Connect all 4 with light rope Attach 2 biscuit tins back to back. Shiny face out. Run the rope in between each one Cable tie top and bottom Then you have a shiny double sided reflective bird scarer

@IFarmWeFarm2 жыл бұрын
That’s Holly Jay, back last year a few people told me to hang branches of holly in our shed to help cure ringworm on our cattle. As the Holly dies a bacteria grows on it which acts like an anti fungal to ringworm. It’s a very common thing Cheers lad 👍

I'm glad you haven't had any cows fall on that ramp coming out of the parlour Adrian, and it does look like it would have been very steep with a ramp coming straight out. One thing to keep in mind though is that with the cows having to turn in such a tight space like that it will increase the damage done to their hooves. You'll be running more of a risk of developing white line disease due to the turning. Hopefully that isn't an issue for you either though with the hardy hooves on your frieisens.
@IFarmWeFarm2 жыл бұрын
Thankfully in all honesty we have next to no feet problems, our hoof man hasn’t been with us in over a year and I haven’t touched any myself. Finger crossed ot stays that way 🤞🤞
@claetuswoodroofe18542 жыл бұрын
You need silanet from Rhino products probably available in your local co op they don’t sell directly I think. It will keep the birds off your bales . Use a few tyres to create a space between the net on the bales
