NO doubt Paul's delivery, content and teaching method is the best. Just sample some of the other lesson teacher's and see that their delivery often is fragmented, very speedy and they do not explain the 'Why'. Paul explains the logic of the language and tutors you to be independent thinker. IF you are interested in learning Spanish, do yourself a favor, go with Paul first and save yourself a lot of confusion.

I'm grateful to hear you say that the only way to learn Spanish correctly & eventually become fluent, is to go slowly & think things through. In my sixties, that's my only hope! It's not easy learning a new language at my age. It's difficult & embarressing enough, without being shamed for not picking it up instantly, or even subconsciously, while sleeping, as some claim is possible. It's not as if I'm willfully refusing to learn. I think it's good to stress how much committment, hard work & repetition it takes.

Hi Will S.Totally agree. Planning to move to Spain in a year myself and have spent the last 6 months learning as best I can. Think I am doing okay! However, as I know from younger days during which i took many, many private French lessons, it all means very little until you overcome the hurdle of engaging in conversation and getting feedback confirming you have said something that another person understands, and can comprehend their response! Once that is behind you I believe the whole learning process accelerates. Summary .... age is not the issue (I hope, at 64!).
@lehaim374 жыл бұрын
Esa es la actitud chicos!! Se debe ir aprendiendo poco a poco, sin prisas, intentando disfrutar de cada paso, de cada proceso, la mejor manera de aprender son siempre las conversaciones con quien maneje con soltura el lenguaje, un saludo cordial para ambos de un español....... y aqui estoy si quereis practicar

Your students may be interested to know that the reason that "hay" only has one form for "there is/are" is that it comes from the Latin expression "ille habet ibi," which means "he has there." It's the exact, literal equivalent of French "il y a" or Portuguese "há," both of which come from the same Latin expression and are therefore also invariable, just as "hay" is invariable in Spanish.

Your lessons are great. Very easy to learn and are most addictive. However, I do have a question. We learned that double l (ll) is pronounced like a "y" . In this case lluvia , the double l (ll) is pronounced like a thick j and not a y. Any specific rule for this? Thank you.
@tylerstandifird28446 жыл бұрын
It's about how the letters are pronounced when Spanish is spoken aloud. While technically "yoo-vee-ah" is the appropriate pronunciation, native speakers typically pronounce the "y" sound almost as a hard "j." Similarly, the "v" sound often sounds like a very soft "b." This is the result of the way individuals learn to use their mouths when they begin to speak as infants. To try and illustrate it, someone with an American English accent might pronounce a sentence like so: "Downe-day estaw law beeb-lee-oh-teck-uh" A native speaker would sound more like: "Don-deh estah lah beeb-lee-oh-tech-ah" The differences can be subtle, but are key to sounding like a native speaker when speaking or reading in Spanish. To practice, I recommend reading Spanish text aloud to yourself regardless of if you can understand it. Spanish is fortunately a very easy-to-pronounce language once you have it down! Remember: "Ah-eh-ee-oh-ooh, el burro sabe mas que tu!" Paul has a particularly thick dialect in this regard so his "yoo-vee-ah" sounds very much like "joo-bee-ah."

Ya quise aprender ''hay'' y ahora veo este video. Qué coincidencia, verdad? Tengo qué decirte qué siempre haces explicar muy bien! O debo decir '' Siempre tengo qué decirte qué haces explicar muy bien!'''?
@legaleagle466 жыл бұрын
El primero es correcto. Sin embargo, "tengo que" no se escribe con un accento sobre la "e" de "que." Solamente se escribe "¡Tengo que decirte que siempre explicas muy bien!"

I was wondering. With the work lluvia. It sounds like you are pronouncing "ll" as a "j". I thought the double l was a "y"sound. Or does this change.
@Saddlebags735 жыл бұрын
I think it’s regional. Most of Spain pronounce it as “y”, different parts of Central America use “j” or “ch”.

Forget that, focus on pretérito imperfecto for now, u need to dominate far more the language to decide when to use one or another
