That period of music around 20011/2012 produced so many timeless UK artists - Angel, Tinie, Labrinth, Wretch, Shakka and more!

I hope people know that 99% of this UK music will age horribly. It's not timeless whatsoever, it's just momentary music.
@Casanova9664 жыл бұрын
@@LDN_KMT Aside from J Hus and a few others, people will not be listening to 99% of the shit that's out right now when we're at Barbecues in our 40s. It will not age well.

There are some very lazy artists in the U.K. scene who lack creativity. Some of these tracks sounds exactly the same, same beat, flow everything. Some of it sounds amateur as if it was made at the local youth club.
@africancoast4 жыл бұрын
Why, do you think the sound is too trendy? I don't think we can say for sure, the afroswing sound for example has lots of replay value imo. But I definitely see what you're saying, most artists are very limited creatively
@Casanova9664 жыл бұрын
@@africancoast I think you're right when it comes to Afro Swing but only the big bangers. That's because it's rooted in African instrumentation which is real music. The UK Drill/UK Rap scene however just goes with whatever is trendy at the time. There's no longevity there, the creativity is non-existent and the general quality isn't high at all.

The most talented producers/artists/musicians from the uk don't even f/w uk music industry once they are able to stand out from the noise. Then the ones with genuine talent are underrated and over looked until they get picked up in america - for example Ella Mai wit Boo'd up. Thats the UK RnB sound we should be talking about ... bare talent out here but A&Rs are still tryna pick up grime/drill or push they own agenda, lets embrace the change

Music is all opinion based so what's good enough to one person might not be good enough for another. But so long as the artist is happy and content with it then that's what matters...true or correct?
@cheeky17334 жыл бұрын
@The Alkebulan Trust True, music is to a certain extent governed by the media and popularity is driven by the consumer. I find the best artists tend to be either super talented or specialist in a specific sound or multi talented and able to adapt to multiple genres. Unfortunately these days and I’m not blaming anyone in particular, music is mass produced and packaged in a certain way, there are a lot of artists right now in the Urban scene doing the same thing to various different standards. There isn’t enough variety around right now IMO.

a lot of artists back then sold out to the big record labels; this meant very commercial unrelatable tracks, highly produced (by uk standards) and aimed at kids/little girls eg no swearing. the uk commercial scene was kinda shit and could not compete with usa. think of don strapzy changing his name to dru blu, chipmunk doing some bait tunes, n dubz once they got signed, tinie tempah, dj ironik with that shiit song tiny dancer. going commercial and signing ruined a lot of artists back then.
@2damecuteUK4 жыл бұрын
I think it’s more about making music that comfortable to who you are artist wise. making music that defines your as a artist. Knowing who you are and what you truly want to say. Wiley made commercial songs and it definitely helped him financially but he didn’t loose identity. Dizzy also changed and made commercial hit records. The artist your talking about went from making music that defined them and change for a trend sound to make profit instead of making music they love.
@KingTooba4 жыл бұрын
2damecuteUK the things is with some of wileys commercial bangers is that it was still good for music in general
@cheeky17334 жыл бұрын
@Black Magik, yeah, but unfortunately this is the progression in music and artists from the underground to the overground so to speak. It happens in all genres from Jazz in the 60’s right through to UK Urban music now. Some of the decisions these artists make are career decisions based on potential income and marketability. What we think of it isn’t really important in the grand scheme of things, some of these decisions are made to secure futures of artists financially and help them build.
@blackmagik64664 жыл бұрын
@@cheeky1733 the irony is back then some record deals, could ruin your street credibility by having u sing songs like oopsie daisy. then you may not even see much money from the deal like fazer who went bankrupt, then the streets dont wanna hear u anymore. it was just a peak time back then. nowadays, its a lot more strategic the way they market people like stormzy, aitch, fredo, etc - back when k koke got signed he started dueting preaching about putting guns down.
@blackmagik64664 жыл бұрын
@2damecuteUK i think the people u mentioned i actually only first heard of them from their mainstream releases, same as lethal b so it may be bit different (from my perspective), but i think back in the day, that was the dream getting a record deal as grime artist, some of them either - signed contracts where they didnt get a say, or was too shook, or trusted record execs. a lot of the artists say retrospectively, it was big mistake as u say not making music that defined them and changing.
Definitely prefer the UK scene in the early 2010s compared to now. It really embodied how Unique London is for BAME individuals from Jay Sean, Devlin, Ed, Rita Ora, Wretch 32, Giggs, Tinnie, Little Mix, Scootcer, Chip, Professor Green, Rizzle Kicks. It was all music I viewed as fun to listen to. (Yes I mentioned white artists but I still felt like their truths were relatable)
@Prime-o8f4 жыл бұрын
Jay Sean, Little Mix, Rizzle Kicks and Rita Ora were making quite generic pop music during that time. Ed Sheeran had a fair amount of swagger back then, his music was good back then I think. Tinie made plain rap music with nothing special about it if we're being honest. They hardly represented London in terms of the content of their songs.
@edenjodiee4 жыл бұрын
Preme I do prefer generic pop music London has always embraced pop culture and I personally think it’s what makes us us, Queen, Beatles, even Rihanna got her global success mostly because the UK embraced her version of pop music. Glastonbury, Redding, Wireless .. at the end of the day I personally think Brits just wanna be dancing the rain. That’s what I think we are missing in the music scene right now. It’s too personalised. Festivals ain’t fun to go to
