This video is from 1994, but this beautiful song was actually written by Dan Hill much, much earlier, in 1973. It was first released in 1977. It went to #1 in Canada and hit #3 on the Billboard Charts in the U.S.

Yep he's Canadian as well. He didn't gain much popularity in the states for some reason. Except for this song. Tell you what when I first heard this I had to stop my vehicle because it really got to me at the time as I'd just broken with my GF and it was not easy to deal with. It is still one of my favorite songs of all time because he really got into it (and nobody but Dan has made a rendition I mean why even bother?).

You ask me if I love you And I choke on my reply I'd rather hurt you, honestly Than mislead you with a lie And who am I to judge you On what you say or do? I'm only just beginning To see the real you And sometimes when we touch The honesty's too much And I have to close my eyes and hide I wanna hold you 'til I die 'Til we both break down and cry I wanna hold you 'Til the fear in me subsides Romance and all its strategy Leaves me battling with my pride But through the insecurity Some tenderness survives I'm just another writer Still trapped within my truth A hesitant prize fighter Still trapped within my youth Sometimes when we touch The honesty's too much And I have to close my eyes and hide I wanna hold you 'til I die 'Til we both break down and cry I wanna hold you 'Til the fear in me subsides At times I'd like to break you And drive you to your knees At times I'd like to break through And hold you endlessly At times I understand you And I know how hard you've tried I've watched while love commands you And I've watched love pass you by At times I think we're drifters Still searching for a friend A brother or a sister But then the passion flares again And sometimes when we touch The honesty's too much And I have to close my eyes and hide I wanna hold you 'til I die 'Til we both break down and cry I wanna hold you 'Til the fear in me subsides

My husband of 9 years passed away without warning November 19, 2019 it's only been 2 months since he left me to go be with God. He used to sing this song to me. I miss his voice, I miss him holding me, I miss him loving me, I miss everything about him. I wish that he was here with me. We have an 8 year old son together and he misses him everyday. With a heavy heart and tears in my eyes, my husband is no longer suffering I will love and miss him dearly. This song hits close to home and touches my heart so deeply 💔 I don't know if I will ever be able to go on without my husband. He was the love of my life! RIP my love. My wonderful step mother and my sisters would sing along when it was playing on the radio. I am 53 years old now and I have never forgotten how beautiful this song is. The words reached me, even at 8 years old. My mom passed away when she was only 36 when I was 3 years old and I have been lost ever since. Music is the only thing that grounds me.

I used to thing this was a cheesy love song before I heard the backstory: "In an interview with ANC's 'Headstart' on Thursday, the Grammy winner recalled being 'madly in love with a woman' when he penned this song, but that love was not reciprocated. 'She was interested in another man, so that was breaking my heart. So I thought I needed to write a song that would capture her and win her over-that would be so passionate in a sense that she’d see that I’m the only guy for her,' said Hill. 'I wrote her the song and I played it over the telephone, and she said ‘that song is just too intense for me. I’m going to the States with the football player.'" And I gained a new respect for Dan Hill and this song. He poured his heart out, believed every lyric, and in that context, not cheesy at all. Sometimes you think, "oh they're just saying words on paper to try and purposely melt hearts", but after hearing that, wow, that shit came straight from the soul and was 100% sincere.
@anakina1
@anakina1 6 жыл бұрын
She said he was to intense and serious. He later gave the song to a producer I believe who crafted it in the fashion presented here. He did not want to do it, but relented and became famous. She broke up with the football player.

It is sad that the lady didn't choose Dan. Then again, that could likely be said for both genders reaching out to somebody of the opposite gender. This kinda speaks on my now ended love for a girl I met at a workplace. We were total complete opposites. I was nothing she was looking for. She wanted muscles. It's something I didn't have and couldn't get. Since being rejected by her harshly and plainly, I totally walked away from love. This includes a time a girl I never saw or knew saw me in high school during my senior. I rejected her out of pure anger towards that girl I got rejected by. That other girl found somebody else. I'm doing fine now. I still think about those two girls, but I won't be pursuing either one of them. Life goes on, and this kind of music needs to come back ON OVERDRIVE! By the way, thanks for sharing this.

My father loved my mother so much!! She lived to be 84 and passed away from Alzheimer's.. We kept her at home for as long as we could, but the last few months she was in a nursing home. He would stay the entire day with her. And then four years later my father passed away from congestive heart failure at 89. They loved each other so much. My daughter, granddaughter and I took care of both of them in their home. We'd love them so much. My father was like a father to my granddaughter. How could someone who created such an amazing song, have only been a one hit wonder? It irritates me that radios don't play the whole song, they cut a huge section and I start singing it every time!

Sometimes When We Touch ~ lyrics "You ask me if I love you And I choke on my reply I'd rather hurt you honestly Than mislead you with a lie And who am I to judge you On what you say or do? I'm only just beginning to see the real you And sometimes when we touch The honesty's too much And I have to close my eyes and hide I wanna hold you til I die Til we both break down and cry I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides Romance and all its strategy Leaves me battling with my pride But through the insecurity Some tenderness survives I'm just another writer Still trapped within my truth A hesitant prize fighter Still trapped within my youth And sometimes when we touch The honesty's too much And I have to close my eyes and hide I wanna hold you til I die Til we both break down and cry I wanna hold you… At times I'd like to break you And drive you to your knees At times I'd like to break through And hold you endlessly At times I understand you And I know how hard you've tried I've watched while love commands you And I've watched love pass you by At times I think we're drifters Still searching for a friend A brother or a sister But then the passion flares again ... And sometimes when we touch The honesty's too much And I have to close my eyes and hide I wanna hold you til I die Til we both break down and cry I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides .."
