Working through these project bikes, this is the one I am keeping. The other mopeds have been distributed to club members.
This has not been an easy project, as I got tripped up by something very simple here, you can learn from my mistake!
It made it all the more rewarding when it was running though, don't give up if it doesn't go right the first time.
Tell us in the comment your experience with not getting it right the first time!

Nice to see a more recent video from you. I recently sold my Harley Sportster and got back into mopeds after 15+ years, I have a Sears Free Spirit Kromag with a Puch E50 in almost new condition. Your videos have been very helpful. A lot of stuff I forgot is coming back to me. I did find that parts are nowhere near as easy to find as they were way back then. It took me a year and a half to find a nice moped. 20 years ago I bought 3 new Tomos mopeds.

for stuff like an ignition, a continuity test isnt really sufficient. you could have continuity if even one of the copper strands in your ignition wire completes the circuit. im splitting hairs here but really you gotta test resistance and compare it to a known good wire/coil/whateva. even then once you get hear in the system resistance goes up

Appreciate this comment, this is something I'm planning on rectifying (bad pun) in a proper video on electrical troubleshooting. For the actual spark plug wire to the boot yes a resistance test should be done.

Did you replace the head gasket upon second reassembly? Really sounds like the headgasket was leaking bad on the first rebuild, and that’s why It wouldn’t start.

Travis, I just received a 1980 Piaggio Vespa SI that does not start. I was wondering if you could give me a hand or put me in the right direction to getting this started. If you read this, please let me know and I will send you an email or any other form of contact to speak with you. Thanks!

My man do you repair mopeds for people? I have a Columbia imperial 79” with the Sachs 505, there any way you could help with fixing it?

I am working on an 1980 Indian moped electrical system and i am having problems with the turn signals, they wont come on. I have checked the wiring and everything appears ok i checked the flasher unit and it checks out i checked the wires for continuity and made sure i had good grounds. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? The battery is fully charged. Thanks

Thanks for that. Would be interested in seeing you walk through testing the electric components on the stater etc. I have my own rusty crusty e50 and like you I'm wondering what is salvageable.
