honestly i might get hated on but i dont really think she handled this bad? she used her crop because her horse was backing up into the bush and that’s dangerous for both of them. plus she laughed it off and patted her horse. sometimes you need extra aids and there’s nothing wrong with that

Agreed. I personally don't think I would've used the crop because for my horse (who can also have moments like this on trail rides) it doesn't work. What DOES work is exactly what she did as well, stay calm, encourage him forward, reward effort, and have another horse/person help him pass the scary spot. I do not like dismounting mid trail because my horse is very tall and I am quite small, and I need to lower my stirrup to get back on without hurting him. This means more fuss and more risky moments where I am not in full control (during mounting and while adjusting my stirrup), which I do not like. I _can_ do this if need be, I just prefer not to. And hence, I can very well imagine it being the same case for this lady.

If your horse is spooked please don't hit or kick them, simply hop off and gently lead then through/around the scary spot. there is no reason to call your horse a idiot or hit them when something like this happens.

What are you going to do when your in a emergency or something and the horse is scared? You can just get off because then the horse gets in a habbit

@@Madisongoar2011 its not a habbit and the horse is not being bad. its just scared

@@ellieironworth-du1ro if the rider gets off the horse every single time the horse will think everytime it gets scared the rider will get off of it. But the horse needs to learn that it is ok to be scared but it needs to keep going. That is how you partially desensitize a horse

i dont think the horse was scared tbh, looks to me like he simply didnt feel like walking on and he probably got away with this disobedience in the past so he tried to do it again 😅

It’s a bit of both! I had someone ride him and they let him do this, so he kept doing it. It started after he became scared at this one spot.

This is a very controversial topic. Maybe she could’ve dismounted and led her horse to what he spooked at. Not only did you not have to call him and idiot but the whip wasn’t even needed. My trainer said that this video isn’t abuse but it isn’t friendly handling. Yes, I know as a equestrian we cannot just dismount as we please but we can handle to situation much better. Hope u and ur horse find a way to walk through those spooks

I handled it just fine haha it’s not that deep. I was about to get off when I saw the man walking his dog, so followed them. I’ve walked him past this spot multiple times
