Maybe it's a but unfair on other difficulties, but as someone who only played on hard difficulty, this update was AMAZING (Master King trial is basically Agent 3 all over again)

My biggest problem with the update is that it gave you a very nice new parry window, but the game's enemies (and by that I mean MOTHERFUCKING WYVERN) do such a horrible job of telegraphing their attacks. I don't focus on the silly spider sense thing, I focus on the animations. If it wasn't a color that the sky sometimes is, it'd be useful.

@@LobotomyTC The thing with Wyvern is that he has two wildly different rythms, the first claw is very slow and the second one is too fast xDDD but I think the telegraphing is fine, what I need is some shining sparks instead of the spider sense, because there's too much information happening at the same time. What I do to get better the timing is moving with the analog stick. It's not very logical, but flying towards the attack allows me to analyze better when to parry, instead of just waiting anxiously.

I've found the tower pretty fun to do too tbh. Master trial and the snake trial was really the parts that truly annoyed me. And I guess the mini bosses have a lot of hp, but at least they don't die in three hit now and they are optionnal.

The game just isn’t polished enough to justify some of the challenges. The new difficulty isn’t “great”, it’s just unreasonable and I hope Sega stops listening to basement dwellers. And keep in mind that I’m saying this as someone who did better than OP, climbing the tower on my first attempt. Then again, it’s not the platforming that was the problem.

@@Hynotama Hey, I'll agree with the lack of polish thing. I see no problem with a 5-frame parry window on Hard mode if the FUCKING TREES WOULD GET OUT OF THE WAY. The game, even with an infinitely long parry time, has no real sensation that you're being attacked by the shit on the screen, during boss fights, like the Wyvern. That boss battle was already sort of meh, but this update really showed off how bad it actually is. Good spectacle, but it needs to play less like House of the Dead but you're Goku and we're 3000 feet in the air. Once I figured out how to beat The End, I don't think I'm ever going to have a problem doing the fight again. It's such a non-obvious trick to get to the weak point, but it works every time.

You’re supposed to do the stomp to inflict more damage, but not only does the game do nothing to teach you how combat works, what does the most damage and so on, but often times, when I would home in on those flower blade things, the game wouldn’t give me enough altitude for a stomp.

The towers weren't even that bad for me (apart from some breakable objects not respawning). My only trouble was that damn Perfect Parry boss trial. But these towers? I love these. I really wish the Jukebox worked in this update. I was really hoping to maybe have NEW unlockable songs, not to lose the feature wholesale. I guarantee this tower would be a blast with some rockin' music. I'd love to platform up this tower as Amy with her Heroes theme playing.

The only issue with the new Towers difficulty is the non-respawning homing attack items, and even that isn’t a big deal if you make proper use of the spindash. These sections made me actively use my brain in a Sonic game, which was a breath of fresh air given that I haven’t felt this way since the boost games started. They weren’t that hard at all, they were a fair and fun challenge that were made to test the skills you learn from your playthrough. Yeah, hard mode is hard. So what? Play on easy if you think it’s tough.

I’ve been playing Sonic games since I was in kindergarten, starting with the original genesis games, on original hardware and I never stopped. And I still found this update to be frustrating. The game simply isn’t polished enough to warrant the frustration. Oh and when people mention that it’s annoying, it’s not the platforming they’re talking about.

@@champ6959 No do not push it, that trial was awful, attacks are poorly telegraphed, like for example when giganto does his spinning attack how the heck do you expect me to find the perfect time to parry that? Or when Wyvern surrounds you and is about to attack, literally the only way I got past that ever was by spamming parry and praying, and I think Knight’s fight is fine for the most part, but by then there is so much nonsense that happened that you’ll most likely run out of rings before you kill him, also doesn’t really help that the parry is like 1 millisecond long.

It fucked me up too. I don't like everything about the update, but I like most of it, and that's all I can really ask for from Sonic Team. They gave it an honest to god try, reused some unused assets, and created a true challenge mode. The one update alone is much longer than all of Forces was. They didn't have to release anything, this could have been another god damned MGSV moment, but it wasn't, and frankly that's better than most of the 2023 gaming landscape.

The difficulty of the DLC on these on towers comes from the fact you don't know what's coming and any mistake has the chance to take you straight to the bottom and forces you to start over. Not everyone (such as myself) has the precious time necessary to waste hours of my life. Beating an unnecessarily hard DLC to a god damn kids' game. Which makes me wonder... How the hell are kids meant to do this!?

Which would have been completely fine if it weren't for that meddling perfect parry. The game simply wasn't built for it, even if there was always a timed parry in development. None of the bosses do a good job of showing you when the attack is parriable(?), because there's never actually a physical connection between the player model and the attack. It's 80% cutscenes, like a SEGA CD FMV game. That kind of needs to stop if this is the direction they're headed. You can script a lot in a boss fight, but you also need it to be more dynamic than this.

I can tell you right off the bat to set your ground deceleration to 8, and air acceleration to 0. The other characters don't seem to behave quite the same way to the ground deceleration setting, but there is a mod/HMM code for that. The rest of the control settings are a matter of preference, but I went for the tightest and twitchiest scheme I could find.

The Spindash was released in Update 2. You have to S-Rank all of the Island Challenges that were also added. The spindash is an absolute godsend, and that and the deceleration in air and on land sliders bumped this 7/10 game up a full point for me. Turn those deceleration sliders to 0 in air and 8/100 on the ground, and it's basically the perfect mixture between Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Adventure 1. I have another video demonstrating how wonderful this move is.

I guess I don't read comments that often. They've patched the game again, so my input settings here wouldn't be the same as they are in 1.41, but I basically turned the air deceleration to 0, and turned the ground deceleration to like somewhere between 2-8, but that's the value they changed in 1.41. Suffice it to say, it's tuned so that sonic takes 1.5-2 steps before stopping if you flick the stick in a direction from a stop. Tried to make it as similar to Sonic Generations as possible. Tracker's Physics is also a good mod to pick up on GameBanana.

I think the only problems that i had with this update were the knuckles delayed flight, the unexistencial training mode for the perfect parry and no checkpoints on the towers. Honestly, the last koco challenge wouldn't be so tedious if you started with supersonic and having checkpoints in the next titan, then you would say: "Oh, ok! Let's practice the parry" and it would be fair, ¿ya know?, they give you the chance to practice the perfect parry with every titan and it would be a hard, but fair challenge.

It looks like the training mode should have been the first 3 towers, but that isn't how it panned out. I think you should have started The Final Horizon with the Perfect Parry, so there was time to get used to it. I would rather the Hard Mode of the game just start you off with the Perfect Parry from the day it was released. I don't know why they did that.

The towers could have used checkpoint pulleys like Rhea's, but otherwise the level design is fine. It's only introducing the Perfect Parry at the end of the game which is actual a true negative, since the window is so tight and the attacks don't match up with the animations on timing sometimes. It's a forced nerf of a mechanic that doesn't function like that at any other point in the game, and even begins to intrude on how the new form feels.

I never had trouble with frontiers but the fps drops on my machine during the Wyvern boss fight in final horizon made perfect parrying almost close to impossible, I only got through it by pure luck.

It IS hard but I'm not complaining. You're right. You need to use the full extent of Sonic's capabilities and fully understand what he is able to pull off. It's not "left to right" as people have complained about for years. If you've played Sonic Adventure 1 or 2 then this should be cakewalk. Again, it is in fact very difficult. Definitely a serious challenge on hard mode but that's why it's so good. Great video!

Trailer LUTs on Gamebanana. It changes the tone map to something much closer to what the pre-release version of the game had. I also downsample at 5120x2880, turn off FSR and Antialiasing, use forced lighting codes, like removing the shadow limit, so shadows can properly stretch, the code for disabling low poly distance models, and maybe one or two other things. Most of it is that LookUp Table mod though.

The first tower relied on a lot of boost launches that were seemingly designed around the non power boost speed, which made it a lot harder. The other towers are pretty fine in terms of difficulty. For the trials themselves the first two were super difficult and then the other two are incredibly easy. Haven't done the fifth one yet (edit: wow that's unfair, spent a couple hours attempting it and didn't do it even on easy). Bosses just feel like they have too much hp even with max attack stat. Other than those points I'm having a lot of fun with the update! Also wow the game looks so much better here than on xbox one

What the game was intended to look like. Beta Lighting and Trailer LUTs on GameBanana. Beta Lighting is what it says it is, the original lighting from the games files, re-enabled. Trailer LUTs is a close approximation of the tone mapping from the games trailers and pre-announcement demos.

OK, the difficulty is ether UNFAIR. evidence: unless you do one combo fast without messing up, you WILL fail the snake trial on easy. Or a joke like the following 2 trials. Also, the first tower is harder. Don't act like you're good by doing the easiest tower. You may be better than me, but platforming isn't most of the hard parts it's the trials so show that if you want to make a point.

It's not that it's too hard, it's that it's garbage unfair design, harder games are fine, I love games like hollow knight and mega man, but in those games if you mess up it's your fault, not the game's fault like in the final horizon

It's only the boss rush and final boss. The rest of the game is git gud. 99% of the platforming is your fault.

@@LobotomyTC The platforming with sonic is trash, you can't lower your speed for platforming designed not to use the max ring/max level speed boost, and they require you use the broken spindash that controls horribly, also the cyberspace levels, especially the one based on white forrest, suck, that one in particular drops the platforms before you can even land on them and really exemplifies the big problem with just copy pasting non-boost level design to a boost game, the honey highway one is almost just as bad, all the sonic sections in the dlc are garbage and unfair and no amount of "get good" changes how objectively bad the design is, the snake trial literally requires you abuse a flaw in the combat system

@@Eevee860Hey, you're entitled to your opinion, but I disagree with most of them (save for one really important one, which is cyberspace). As far as I can tell, the new Cyberspace stages don't even have the same physics model that the base game used. You're right, though, in cyberspace, specifically, your midair control is fucking dumb. It would be *okay* if that's how the whole game played, because it would at least be consistent. But that lack of consistency is the problem. Super disagree with your spindash take. That being said, I had absolutely 0 problems with any cyberspace stage in the update. Once you're used to it, it's fine. Those levels aren't perfect, a lot of them aren't even good, but if you can't beat them, well, git gud skill issue etc. They really aren't that hard, even if a handful are frustrating. The Open Zone Physics are 10/10 though and you can't change my mind on that. EDIT: Decided to be less rude. I need to catch myself when I'm a dick for no reason.

@@Tr4yst3r I'll have you know that I did most of the challenges without parrying. While the tower climbs were only annoying, the actual trials, especially two and five, were unfairly difficult. It would have been one thing if the base games difficulty were curved up to prepare us for this kind of challenge, but it wasn't. It expected is to do all of this in a sudden burst of difficulty instead of finding ways to acclimate the player beforehand. While I did enjoy this DLC, even I understand why everyone is saying this is harder than it should be.
