this was great. But when I opened mine up and inspected the camera, it appears they've put some sort of fixative or paint onto the camera's focus ring to prevent it from being turned manually. I'm afraid to apply too much force and break it in attempting to free it.

There is no mention of manual focus on the website, is this done via the lens, I wish to know before I buy one ?

raymondingram1 The refocus is done via the lens but you have to dismantle the unit to reach the lens. The lens is also locked with some glue from factory. There is a thread on the 8mm forum about the Wolverine machine which covers this ( se page 6) on this 8mmforum.film-tech.com/

this semicon thing would just need a better codec to get way more clearer pictures, because it is clearly using a not tweaked JPG codec on level 6 or so... it just looks bad.
