LEGEND BELA LUGOSI AND MASTER OF HORROR is being asked some questions by the court. One of the best scenes in the movie!

"Machines, all kinds. Wheels go round, electric lighting comes out. Bottles: big ones, little ones. He doctor. I no understand his business. I...blacksmith." Ygor is Lugosi's second most identifiable character. Someone who started out his career playing romantic leads in Hungary & Germany ending up as Ygor. Ironic to say the least, but he was a consummate & unfortunately underrated actor.

"They die, dead! I die, live!" This is an awesome scene with Lugosi. I like his Ygor character better than Dracula. Still don't get how he came back in Ghost of Frankenstein, though, after his death in this movie.

One of Bela Lugosi's finest roles here, and the evil Ygor.

Bela stole this film. The Igor character he created is perfect and legendary. I love how his cough turned into a laugh as he left the town elders. Brilliant performance....

He kinda had to steal the film considering he always hated playing roles with no dialogue hence why he turned down Frankenstein & they gave the role to Karloff so it makes sense he tried to shine above Karloff in this film considering Karloff was making millions after Frankenstein & Bela was only making tens of thousands after Dracula plus Bela actually hated Karloff because of that reason but Karloff actually was such a nice guy & friend & gentlemen that he actually helped support Bela when his career started to fail !!!! Talk about a actual angel & a gentleman & a real friend ❤

@@maralinekozial9131 According to his daughter and many friends Bela respected Boris and both had a high regard for each other. There never was animosity……Only in “Ed Wood.”

@@saintcruzin yes but originally Bela did not enjoy Karloff until he actually saw how good of a person he was

At 2:12 - 2:16 Ygor says, "They die, dead! I die, live!" and he laughs about it! Creepy, but funny at the same time! Priceless! I love these old movies!

The original Frankenstein was melodramatic and over the top. But I thought Son of Frankenstein with Basil Rathbone was brilliant. And Bela Lugosi's performance of Ygor was incredible. Thanks for this clip.

I laughed when Ygor deliberately coughed on the guy.

Man, James Rolfe was right; Bella's performance really steals the show. Gotta watch the full thing.

I like the chilling look Ygor gives the 2 surviving jurors. You can practically see the wheels of his dark mind turning. "Enjoy it while you can! It may be shorter than you think!"

Lugosi was so Central European. If you read about Hungary, you know it was a hot mess. Lugosi brought that tragic background to the role of Ygor.

Yes, I know but thanks! And when he first starred in '31's Frankenstein, he'd already been in movies almost 20 years as a bit player/extra. Lon Chaney Sr. advised him that if he wanted to succeed, he should play something no else was doing & do it well.

They always figuire out a way to bring them back no matter how illogical! That's what makes these old movies so much fun! Glad they're still around. These movies are lost on a whole generation who can't enjoy them because they're in black and white and have no guts, blood, gratuitous violence and profane language in them!

Bela Lugosi should have, as Karloff also should have, received an Oscar for their performances in these roles. They are unique and difficult characters that required a lot of raw talent and experience. Not like the pretty boy jerks of today's multi-million dollar flops. There are no more character parts and no more character actors today: then again there aren't any well written stories that grab the imagination and thrill people. Everything is CGI blow 'em up crapola today.

Bela was ALWAYS over-the-top and camp. A horrible actor you can't help but to love BECAUSE of his whacky delivery. His work in those Ed Wood movies was pure magic and a treasure.
@MisterBill5933 жыл бұрын
You really should take in more of Lugosi's non-horror roles. He was over the top in many of his horror roles because otherwise the films would have been boring to watch. Lugosi knew what he was doing.
