This is one of the best horror punk records ever released, i remember working at Sam Goody when it came out and was like hmmm this looks cool and then i was blown away by how good it was

The greatest shame of Son of Sam is that the label did virtually no promo and they never toured (I think this is right around the time Dave blew out his vocals the first time) :( I would have driven halfway across the country to see this band live

"Son of Sam" is literally short for "Son of Samhain", as confirmed by Steve Zing/Grecco, since almost all members of Son of Sam were at one time part of Samhain.

That was absolutely fascinating! I had never heard of Son of Sam, so it was really, REALLY cool to hear about it from somebody who knew about it and could explain! Also, damn, Danzig was working his ass off on that Danzig Legacy tour!

This album riiiiips!!! When I was in high school my parents freaked out when I put a Son of Sam sticker on my car. They sat me down to have the "are you a satanist talk". I was so confused because to me it was a punk band being spooky.

It's funny how Inspirational Naming works. To them, Son of Sam means Serial Killer from New York City, to you it meant really cool punk band! I was actually surprised to find out there was a horror movie titled White Zombie and that was the reason for the band name, because the Lead Singer is a giant Horror Fan!

and now I am gonna have to dig this cd out of the collection for my driving the work tunes. There was an resurgence in horror punk from the mid 90s untill when this came out. Bands like Deadbolt, The Groovie Ghoulies, The Forbidden Dimension, Blitzkid and Riot Squad/The Staggers (from Texas) were all releasing Horror Punk records worth checking out. In addition to the Misfits box set and the Samhain Box, we also got reissues/ CD releases of Mourning Noise (a Misfits adjacent band from the 80s), New Math (a Rochester NY band who became The Jet Black Berries and were on the Return of the Living Dead soundtack [and I was part of rereleasing that]) and The Tallboys (who were on the ROTLD soundtrack)...

@@drewom9404 My buddy Tony did a comic for Balzac, I got to see them live once they were pretty great... there was also a lot bands like Razoreater that next to no one heard... or The Coffinshakers and Ghoultown who were mixing classic country with punk or Phantasm who released a great Horror Metal album. Ska bands like The Independents or The Ghoul Tones... and bands in just about every rock related sound that were playing in the horror sandbox.

I wondered if you had this or not. Watching your AFI vids I kept saying, he would love son of Sam, and here we are. I picked this up when it came out. I wasn't anticipating it or anything. I happened to e working at a record store and saw this on our cart for new releases coming out the next day. I was like, what is this? Misfits Samhain AFI? It was great. I always wondered if everyone knew about this or didn't.

When I was in high school I was walking home from the middle school where my dad taught and I was wearing a Son of Sam tshirt… a crossing guard there ripped into me for wearing a shirt that said “Son of Sam” on it. Her morality was just sooo offended… anyway I mentioned it to my dad and heard later that he tore into her at work the next day and told her never to comment on what his son chooses to wear again. It was the most surprising thing my dad ever did.

I was wearing a Son of Sam T shirt - signed by Davey and Adam Carson on a summer warped tour....the day I wore it was 9/11/2001. A lady on the city bus goes.... "You're gonna wear a shirt like that on a day like this!" I remember thinking: #1) I put the shirt on before I knew the incident happened. #2) what does a death rock band have to do with Osama Bin Laden?
