Your " what is right" moral compass should be the ultimate decision-maker not allegiance to an ideology, person, family, or movement. This should also be based on the " right" moral compass and the right religious teachings. If you are bringing down another group of people just to raise yourself up, control, subvert, or feel superior to others THEN you should know you are on the wrong path and have the wrong beliefs. We do not choose our family BUT we all chose who to follow, believe in, and our actions. Sometimes you are hurt or killed for those choices but that is the price of such choices. I'd say listening to the kid gives a lot of insight into the father. Obviously the man "believes" a lot of messed up things, but he raised a smart, honest, and very brave son, who had the intelligence and fortitude to do the right thing, even in the face of bringing down his father and mentor - no doubt the hardest thing he's ever had to do.
