Son of a wrongfully convicted postmaster, Varchas Patel says his father will "never, ever recover" from the Post Office scandal.
The case was a miscarriage of justice involving the wrongful civil and criminal prosecutions of an unpublished number of sub-postmasters (SPMs) for theft, false accounting and fraud.
The cases are the most widespread miscarriage of justice in British legal history, spanning a period of over twenty years with many aspects of the scandal remaining unresolved.
Mr Patel says: "His reputation is in tatters, family were horrible. There was racism, harassment, death threats from locals - they wanted him dead!"

My mother was also effected at the Post Office scandal. The trauma they faced when Horizon told them they had owe'd. Crying and yelling. Feeling defeated. Me and my sister were very young during this time and not had much idea what was going on. As my parents were older and had no much experience with computer systems, how could they know that this is a bug? How could they tell the Royal Mail hotline that this was an computer error. They were guinea pigs with the Horizon System. The Post Office was my mother and families livelihood. It was our communities livelihood After my mother closed down her Post Office, her mental health started to deteriorate, she blamed herself for years, and still does. This scandal has rippled though my entire family. The shame not only from family, but also customers and community facing deep racism. They blamed her, without understanding the story. This 4 part series opens the light to the country and hopefully our community.

After following this story unfold, from the first prosecutions to the eventual court cases, I find it absolutely incredulous that no one within the Post office or government, has ever been held to account within a criminal court! People within the Post office knew that there were people working for the software supplier going into the Horizon system and altering accounts. What about crowd funding and going after the people who tried to hide the truth and taking them to court. Utterly disgusting that a once proud institution that was the Post office would resort to such a debacle.

🦉🐯 Paula Vennells, who served as Post Office CEO from 2012 to 2019, ran this firm whilst it routinely denied there were problems with its Horizon IT system, she knew the issues and she lied, even “stealing” sub-postmasters personal money to “cover” their loses, and imprisoning innocent people, people, real people! The ones that are responsible have to face prison themselves, Paula Vennells needs to be on trial! As for (in one case) the PO lawyers being awarded £321,000 by a judge for costs, well I doubt someone representing themselves get such an “award”.

We have been here before with the Bus driver's pensions, courts ruled that each driver must be paid £10,000 and if they died in the meantime then the £10,000 need not be paid. This is the reason for the delay as the courts will do the same with the P.O. Politicians, courts, and big business never lose, only you the working man or woman lose. We live in a dictatorship where no one answers and they make the rules up as they go. The ones who refused to admit any wrongdoing were jailed. The P.O workers who lied to cover up software pitfalls should have all assets seized as they got bonuses and paid off as a result of fraud, totally amazed this has not happened as the law is clear that all assets from crime are confiscated and they should be in the dock and face jail sentences. And if you think jail is too harsh, remember that they jailed a pregnant woman for protesting her innocence and not admitting to a crime she never committed. It's time the British Public woke up to just how corrupt our country is.

Just a thought, I've heard that the police have started to interview two people already. One is a car park attendant, and the other is a passer by. Any update on how that's going. After all these year's things are moving quickly.😢😢😢😢

I'm not sure compensation is the right word. These people were forced to pay under 'money with menaces'. They still want their money back. Then we can talk about compensation. The next thing is that the perpetrators must face justice and The Post Office must be reformed.

As a senior Post Office manager who has received some simply astonishing bonuses over the years for work well done, I can only offer my most sincere sympathies to those effected. Unfortunately the Post Office has been facing challenging market conditions for years now and isn't in a position financially to offer compensation. We do however thank you for your service and we are sorry about the all that terrible court business. My advice is have another glass of Champagne and try not to dwell on it.

Don’t dwell on it, that’s easy for you to say but is very patronising . How can anyone who has been subjected to what these sub postmasters have been not dwell on it.

@@LynnHutchinson-Jones Calm down lady. You little people need to learn to be more philosophical. When life gives you lemons, buy oneself a treat to distract oneself. I recently bought myself a new Aston after receiving a rather insulting tax demand. Life is about living, so don't worry about the little things.

It's a deliberate policy of attrition by the Post Office against these innocent people. Who framed the script for the 'helpline' operators? Whoever it was deserves a prison sentence for criminal conspiracy, at least.

Also look at the RoboDebt Royal Commission in Australia. From 2013 to 2019; 560,000 unemployment benefit recipients were sent letters stating that their benefits had been overpaid and needed to be repaid, as the govt’s computer said they had understated their income. Turns out that the govt’s computer estimated their income, based on their income in last year’s tax return - not considering that they may have since lost their job. The Demand Letters totalled Aust $1.76 billion. Around 30 recipients - young men - committed suicide, after receiving their letter - often demanding over $20,000. To date, the Australian Government has paid compensation of $760 million to 360,000 people. Prime Minister Scott Morrison and 2 other Ministers failed to check that the scheme was lawful, before it started - and failed to check when it was running from 2013 to 2019. (Kym in Darwin, Australia!.

A dishonest sub postmaster is a contradition in itself ..the english know no post office that will allow a penny in discrepancies in their bòoks ..its a tradition ..and also their pride ..so i can totally believe none of these people wrongfully accused will ever really recover ..compensation should swift and GERNEROUS ..and the perps should see the inside of the cells they wrongfully put people in .and between them them serve every day of all the sentances ..also be barred from any public office for life ..

The British government gave the Post Office the right to carry out kangaroo courts. They are hugely responsible.

That mob mentality is disgusting. The way family, friends and neighbours treated this man beggars belief. It happened tbrough covid too. People blindly believing governments and media and treating fellow humans abhorrently. Lets support each other and believe less of what msm and governments tell us.

Didn't anyone at the post office realise that they needed to change the screening process as they seem to have employed lots of criminals who steel money? wakey wakey, definitely incompetence displayed here.. not just by the PO but the courts as well. Don't worry too much about the compensation, just repay the money owed back to the sub postmasters incl interest, then jail the real criminals for corporate injustice. Its always, its not my fault, its the system, well someone is accountable for the system.....

I just couldnt belive what i was watching and the cover up this miscarage of justice of these poor people and the families of the people who took their lifes . I used to use the post office a lot but no more i for one am taking a stance with the poor families who go wrongfully acused and convicted and i think britain should stand side by side with these families . And they still havent had compensation because the post office trying to cover up their blunder! But there again theres no amount of money can compensate the ruination of families and the loss of family loved ones through suicide .
