As a parent, he failed right there..when he sent his son to his room. He said the son is his world but yet didn't listen to him, that already shows he put a stranger to his son,..above him.. Always listen to your child when they have something to say and they feel uneasy around someone or have an instinct for you to do or not to do something. Childrean are a blessing show them love respect nurture so they can show that back to you as parents and others..listen and talk to them about the real world and how to handle situations and life so they can be knowledgeable.
