Great video! I just got my Helix 9 back from getting the circuit board replaced. It wasn't reading the bottom correctly. I am going to try your settings. I was out the other day and my 2D Sonar did not show my line when I was dropping it below the transducer. Not sure if it was because of my settings or if the transducer is messed up. And, I fish primarily in saltwater/brackish ICW. Would I need to change settings other than water type?

This video is so great and much appreciated!! I have a Helix 7 from 2018, and have recently taken up to vertical jog for lake trout up in Quebec, Canada. The fishing happens in waters anywhere between 35-120 ft, and water type is clear tea stained. Bottom is usually rocky or sandy. I noticed some of your setting were specifically selected to target fish in 15-30 ft, so what would you change setting wise if you were fishing like I described above? FYI, I recently bought and installed a Minn Kota Ulterra with lock spot feature so I’m curious to understand if I should use a narrow or wider angle cone view of the bottom. I thank you for your response in advance!
@BassGeek4 жыл бұрын
35 to 120 is a large range for a specific group of settings. The one thing about any graph that you should always remember is the settings will change lake to lake and even spot to spot. At the deeper ranges I may go down to the 80 sonar frequency or "low" I think it is that bird calls it now. Less separation but a greater dept penetration. The other reason for that is that the 200 frequency range has a 1 to 1 cone size. So 3 feet of depth is equal to 3 feet of bottom coverage. The 80 Frequency is a 1 to 3 depth to cone size. So 3ft down you only have 1ft of bottom coverage. So with a 1-1 at 100ft you get 100ft of bottom. which means the fish that you see near the bottom could be 50ft in any direction. With the 1-3 they would only be 33.33ft so at least somewhat closer. You really have to tweak per spot and depth.

Once the water temps and lake levels begin to rise so will the fish. Right now find those northern banks that are protected from the wind will the water temps are in the 40's. Once the temps reach 50's start to look at those main lake and secondary area's were they will move up to early to feed. with the water in the 40's find the warmest water you can and cleanest.

Your vids are great and offer MOSTLY correct info. I just wanted to help about 2 things I noticed that you may want to change. Zoom width is not what you say it is in this video. Zoom width is only effective in the zoom view where it shows the zoomed window to the side (narrow makes the window smaller and wide makes it bigger). It has no effect on your main 2d view. Also you may want to change your transducer setting from generic 83/200 to the proper transducer that is mounted. All DI g2 helix's come with a xnt 9 di. This transducer will not even broadcast a 83khz frequency and the setting should be left at default DI 200/455khz. Keep up the vids!
@BassGeek5 жыл бұрын
You are correct about the Zoom I was thinking of a setting on my SI's and confusing the two however this is not a DI unit. I just don't have need for a DI On the Bow. The shape of the transducer is so that as the trolling motor moves it distorts the image. I can do the same with 360 and 2d.

does it matter where the transducer is placed based on if the unit is CHRP with DI and or SI? Currently i have a garmin striker4 on the bow so if i buy a more advanced unit with DI and SI should i move the garmin upfront and put the advanced unit in the rear?
@BassGeek5 жыл бұрын
You want the DI\SI mounted on a stable spot. The transom in most cases. Mounting a DI\SI on a trolling it distorts the image because of the shape of the "cone". You can get away with Di at the bow but if I was you I would put the DI\Si on the console.

Do you have any tips on how to catch bass in the rain or any fish
@BassGeek5 жыл бұрын
Depending on water temps when it rains normally you have 3 pluses. Low sky, rain decreases light penetration, and it decreases sound. So for colors I use dark colors because light just doesn't make it very deep into the water. I will use LOUD baits to help draw the bass in. Then I will go with bigger baits Not giant but I want a good large profile on a jig. Hope that helps

scroll speed on 2D sonar matching boat speed? Why is that? does it not compress the return on the screen? Jigging mode is a setting that changes the ping sequence. How does the unit measure the bottom temperature to show the variance between the surface and bottom temperature? The temp probe is on the transducer.
@BassGeek3 жыл бұрын
I have no clue how it measures bottom temp. I'm guessing it's an educated guess. If you don't match boat speed you will get elongated screen or lines instead of arches. To fast and yes you get a compressed screen and arches will be short or just vertical lines.
@sonar56763 жыл бұрын
@@BassGeek it does not read bottom temp BassGeek. The temperature graph displays the temperature changes over the recent sonar history. A temperature input from the installed transducer or temp/speed accessory is required to enable this feature. What you are thinking is bottom temp is actually the lower "range" of the temp display. Surface temp is displayed through overlays or digital readouts.
