I'd say you should do "White pearl, black oceans" or "Don't say a word" (music video version is heavily edited from album one, not as good) next from these guys! Cool reaction btw :)

Sonata Arctica is from Kemi Finland, that was filmed on sea ice. Check out White Pearl Black Oceans. (Live at Kemi Open Air 2009). I was at that show, and it was about 5 blocks from where I lived at the time. Great band, and Tony Kakko is great friends with everyone in Nightwish.

It has been a while since I last heard this song, great reminder. For some reason whenever I think of Sonata, their 'Kingdom for a Heart' song comes to mind. That would be an interesting react too. If you guys feel like reacting to South-American power metal one of these days, there is a song called 'La Leyenda del Hada y el Mago' by the legendary Argentinian band Rata Blanca. I suspect you would both like it.

YES! Sonata Arctica is such an underrated band, granted that their newer stuff is a bit questionable. SA has been my favourite band ever since I was a child (Wintersun is pretty close tho...) and it's good to see other people get into their music as I have. I hope to see more Sonata Arctica -reactions from you guys! (There are plenty of epic keyboard solos to be heard) Perhaps something longer next time, like White Pearl Black Ocean?
@piotrhadaa475 жыл бұрын
I think the newer stuff is just different. I grew really immersed in Stones Grow Her Name or Days of Grays as the time passed. I think more recent releases are kind of more mature in approach therefore different. But that's just personal opinion comming form a die hard SA fan since 2004 (?).
@7enebriss8375 жыл бұрын
@@piotrhadaa47 I'm not saying all their new stuff is bad, there are some definite gems among them, but in general I'm not impressed with their last 3 albums. Stones Grow Her Name had the sequels to Wildfire that I really like, but that's about it. Pariah's Child didn't have a single song that stands out to me (MAYBE X Marks the Spot?). The Ninth Hour was pretty decent, I liked about half of the songs on that album and the other half was complete garbage imo. Also the mixing in their newer albums is just plain bad. You can barely hear the guitar.

So glad you gave Sonata Arctica another shot, the first song you picked was far from their best. They're a Symphonic/Progressive metal band so their harmonies etc are top notch, and Tony Kakko has one of the better live voices in metal. A few songs I'd recommend checking out: Some of their live acoustic content, Replica, Wolf & Raven, FullMoon, Tallulah, The Cage, Kingdom for a Heart, White Pearl Black Ocean, Victoria's Secret, San Sebastian, Flag in the Ground, Letter to Dana, I have a Right, Shy, Ain't Your Fairytale, M y Selene, The Misery, Shamandalie, Cinderblox, Mary-Lou, Wildfire, Alone in Heaven, It Won't Fade, False News Travels Fast, Sh itload of Money.

A&P-REACTS Tony Kakko is superb singer, I’ve seen them live 10 times, but last few times (dec2018, march2019) I’ve noticed hoarseness in his voice and loss of high notes/stamina. Few weeks back at acustic adventures many songs were transposed so he could save his voice and sing lower. Let’s just hope that he hasn’t lost his high notes and stamina alltogether. Sonata Arctica songs are very demanding vocally, but Kakko is a great frontman and will surely pull a great gig even if he can’t sing like in albums :)

Dont Say a Word would be a great one to react to, its a bit heavier than this one and a lot darker. But they have a lot of albums... other standouts, there is one called "Shitload of money" that is a really upbeat rock track... Full Moon is a classic, and Juliet is a really complex track thats really cool. Tony Kakko the singer is good friends with Nightwish, as both bands are from Finland... Sonata arctica toured with nightwish a bunch of times and Tony did (does?) a lot of guest appearances on Nightwish concerts.
