Hey Kids!!
Today I am reacting to a highly requested song from a previous video. I am not a huge fan of covers so when "High Hopes" was suggested, I almost took it as a dare...You'll see the results! Thank you everyone and enjoy!!

Hello Eric. First off, I was touched by your relating the wonderful story of your dear wife. I fully understand the emotions when listening to songs that you both enjoyed so much. My sincere condolences. I am the North American executive producer for Nightwish and looking after their May, 2020 tour of this continent. This band is more than a band really. It is a group of friends who play to have fun on stage and off. I, along with Floor, Marko, and others regularly watch the reactions to their songs. A note of interest on this song is that it was never meant to be a cover. You completely nailed that. It was a tribute. Marko, along with Tuomas and Emppu, put this together in one week in the Finland studio. I am sending this to Floor and Marko as this is the absolute best review of this song that I have seen. Your detail is remarkable. And, do not be concerned about Marko. He is doing great. Be assured that we will be subscribing and watching any Nightwish reviews that you may wish to offer in the future. I wish you all the best. Take care, Robert.

Thank you Robert, for the kind words and the compliment. I am humbled, truly, by this. Having spent 30 years in a padded room talking to myself, I'm always a bit surprised when I'm noticed, my ego aside. I know music is important to everyone, but Rock and Roll has literally been my life and I'm shocked to this day I was blessed enough to be at least "Rock Star Adjacent" and experience what I have. This is something new and wonderful and like I said in my previous reaction to their video, I'm sorry as a Program Director we are so hamstrung to where we can't promote artists like this on our own to our listeners. I have opinions about the US Music industry and very few of them are positive. On top of me working 30 years in Active Rock, my late wife was an attorney for ASCAP, so I have some added insight to the Machine. You thank me for my reaction, but I thank you for helping show the world these wonderful artists. If there is ever anything I can do to help further their reach, just ask. The community has come out in full force and have been nothing but awesome and warm. I can only hope I can provide something for them that is comparable. My email is on my page and you can reach out on any SM to have direct contact with me. And if you're ever in Nashville, beer's on me! Cheers! Eric

Wow, Eric. I didn't expect it to be such an emotional reaction. I understand and respect your pain, and I am glad that you find in yourself the strength to move on. Let me point out that many of us Nightwish fans have "clashed" with their music at critical times in our lives, and with their help we have found the strength to move on. And here's a paradox: I'm convinced that Nightwish members only set out to express themselves, not to be the "spokespersons" for the feelings of others. Such a thing cannot be interpreted, for them it is not a role, they actually live this, and this is felt. Thank you for helping me crystallize these ideas through your comment. Know that I am just an ordinary 54-year-old man who works from 9 to 18 and I have a passion for Nightwish, because for me it is a really meaningful phenomenon in this life. I don't lead armies. Your thanks flatter me, but my greatest satisfaction is not this, but to see people like you discover the diamonds and pearls of beauty of Nightwish music, which caresses the soul. Obviously, a new subscriber here. I look forward to your next steps in discovering this treasure :)

@@TheWyldesidewithEricClark I'm so sorry for your loss Eric, I've been there. My statuesque and pragmatic wife of 30 years worked her guts out with a company that treated her like something you stepped in, so we could both retire here to a quiet bit of France in 2012, she was ecstatic. In late 2014 at 54 she had without warning a massive and immediate fatal stroke - basal artery failure. It was a dark time, very dark. So I can't do Nightwish - Kiss While your Lips are Still Red, just still haven't the inner strength. I can empathise, been there, not fun.

First of all, I'm sorry for your loss. I loved your reaction, very sincere. This indeed is a tribute, not a cover! It's Nightwish, doing what they do best. Evoking emotions in their listeners, mesmerizing them with their musicianship and showmanship, while still acknowledging the composition of this beautiful song. I'm glad I started you off on this Nightwish journey and I've subscribed to see where it takes you. Your words at the end of the video immediately made me think of a fairly recent Nightwish song called 'How's The Heart'. It's about human empathy and I think it will really speak to you. There's no live version yet, it's too new, but there is a wonderful lyric video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoXHi3drqqudgtU and a fantastic acoustic version (just Floor and Troy, Nightwish's English multi-instrumentalist) kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4rXnIOme76thdE

Nightwish evokes so much reflection and emotions, that in dark times, it can be difficult to listen to it, because it will penetrate the depths of your soul, and whether it can be positive or negative depends on your mental strength ... I for my part believe that nightwish heals the depressions, and that this reflection that forces you to do, does nothing but heal the soul a little with each listening..This happens with this tribute, they will try to enter your soul, and they do it in person, looking into your eyes and giving you everything they have, they will not negotiate even 1 gram of their talent ... this happens in many nightwish songs , this same feeling of weightlessness that is generated by watching this band.

Sorry for your loss. And, yes, this is a tribute - no doubt about it. In Gabriel's list you find a song by called "Yours is an empty Hope" - hearing you talk about internet trolls and the like, I am pretty sure you'll aprreciate the lyrics of this piece, and if you listen carefully, you'll hear yet another tone quality in Floor's voice.

Thank you for sharing your reaction! Marco is a decade older than the rest of the band, a metal veteran who had definitely done some living before landing with them. And it really comes through in his singing, infusing whatever the song he does with sense and gravity. My personal favorite of his has recently become his last lead vocal with Nightwish in "Endlessness", as it really showcases that infusion and its impact.

Marko is very much missed. I can only hope he does return one day. This tribute was just mind blowing the first time I heard it 3 years ago and it still is today. What a terrific reaction. The fact that you saw it as a "Tribute" gave me chills. So very sorry for your loss. Beautiful lady. I think you should delay Floor singing Alone. Floor and a grand piano brings me to tears, and I don't have the connection to the song like you do. To see what Floor can do with a song, see what she does with "Shallow" from Lady Gaga. Beste Zangers is a Dutch TV show that highlights 6 singers who spend time together and then spotlight each individually with the other singers picking a song to sing to that singer. Floor was 39 when she sang Shallow for Emma. Floor began singing Metal when she was 16 and Emma is 22. Floor had already been thru the path that Emma was now just beginning and....well, just see what she does. I do hope you eventually can listen to Alone, and maybe it will be a healing experience. Much love, my friend.

Because of your way of doing things, I have subscribed. Absolutely understandable to skip songs if they make you sad because of your wife. To the song. I think it's better than the original. Not only because I'm of course a Nightwish fan, but above all a metal fan. The original is just not my style. Marko's voice is simply sensational, the song darker and draws me more in. Emppus solos just great. Everything I want is in there. And if you consider that Tarja was fired right after this concert (everyone except Tarja already knew it at that time), the lyrics also take on a completely different meaning. Just like the intensity with which Marko sings.

I've been a Pink Floyd fan since I was a little kid and have heard many other artists try to play their material and fail miserably. This is the one version of a Floyd song that I actually like more than the original. And you're absolutely correct, it is not a cover it is a tribute and it is the best tribute you could possibly want. If you're going to do a song written and performed by the best you also have to be the best, and they are. Also I would like to say sorry about your loss and when or if you are ever prepared for Floor doing Alone be warned it is on the same level brother.

Floor did an awesome performance of Shallow from Lady Gaga on a Show called "Beste Zangers" it has a double translation (Dear Singers/Best Singers) she song this for the lady in the red dress. All the people in this show (its not a compentition) are singers from all walks of life and they step out of their comfort zone and to enjoy and sing each others songs or songs that have a certain meaning for the person they sing it for. There is no winners or loser just good music by people who love to sing. This rendition of Shallow for me, changed the song forever I cannot even listen to the version of Lady Gaga anymore. Also all of Floors performances on this show are amazing and I can recommend them all. Seeing that she is singing in multiple languages (English, Dutch, Spanish and German) and there is a intro and outro talk in Dutch I suggest to use the links from Jennyzelf she took the time to translate them and post the performances of Floor. This is the link with subtitles for the Shallow song performed by Floor Jansen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJeWZHx_n9SbitE

Listened to high hopes from release over the years absolutely love it and heard over the years to listen to this nightwish cover and kind of turned my nose up at going to been listen as I absolutely love the original and it’s only been the last couple of weeks I was on KZbin and thought I’ll watch someone reacting to nightwish. I’ve got to say I was blown away and absolutely regret not being more open minded to someone “covering” it when like you say it’s a tribute and a fucking epic tribute it is.

And now, thanks to you sir, my 70 yo head is now on a quest to explore Pink Floyd beyond the Wall that I knew. Hey, try "lara fabian." I'll be two armies: nightlight and pink Floyd. Bty, going g into Wacken Floor was a temp. She walked out witgzcontract.

Dear Mr. Clark, great reaction and comments to this song, thank you for that. I am very sorry for your loss, my thoughts are with you, only time will make it more bearable imo. Nightwish did this song as homage to Pink Floyd because they admire their art (I think). Greetings from Germany 🤘👋

In my opinion.. They did it so well because of the respect. Yeah. They had respect for original but to be honest they had to add that NW spark. Sums it up all together we have this amazing performance.

Thank you for your reaction, sir. All of us, Nightwish's fans, know that this song is a tribute to Pink Floyd, but Thank you for give us a great explanation about the Why. It was great! I embrace you in your sorrow. Continúe with this beutiful experience named Nightwish that I pretty sure you will find great music (not only by NW but also to some artists related to them, too) to add to your soundtrack of life. Cheers.

I really like how Nightwish performed this in their own style, and that's how they were able to pull this off. If Marko had just sang it like Gilmour, if Emppu had just tried to emulate Gilmour's guitar play, this wouldn't have been the tribute it was.

Thank you sir for your reaction. I saw the doubt on your face before the clip started and I had the same, be fore I heard this tribute. Marko, Emppu and Tuomas are huge Pink Floyd admirers. They said they never can't be Pink FLoyd, but wanted to make a tribute to them. I also love Emppu's guitar parts in this song. I feel so deeply for you sir, to loose the love of your life must be so hard and she must be always present in your head. You sir, are one of the best reactors in You tube. Not because you are a specialist like you said. No, you feel the music, you understand the music and can describe it so detailed and precisely. Thank you for being her sir. Much love from Holland x

16:29 ....me too brother. I was at the May 1994 final event ever at the original Cleveland Browns Stadium b4 it was torn down and the Browns moved to Baltimore. This song, this album, means the world to me and not only was I not offended by this performance, at the moment its my favorite rendition of the song. Marko had strain and longing in his voice as he sang it, i had no choice but to reflect on my own life's good, bad and exciting times. I just turned 57 this month so there's a lot to reflect on and this song always enhances my mood after I get the emotional release. Thanks for encompassing the way I feel about this song and immortalizing it on KZbin hopefully for others to connect with as well. The entire rock and roll genre of music my favorite music, is slowly dying and there doesn't seem to be anybody around to take the place of all the legends and the one hit wonders and the musical acts that should be in the rock and roll Hall of Fame and for some reason are not but there are rappers in the Hall of Fame. Gen Z is completely disconnected with rock and roll so I really believe that the best way to keep the best music ever alive is through KZbin reaction channels FM radio is dying I can't tell you the last time I listen to a regular over-the-air radio so there are no more DJs really to promote rock and roll so it's up to you guys and I really appreciate it because I get to hear the music that I've loved for a long time for the first time again vicariously through the reaction channels. Let me tell you the first time I watched a reaction to the song vicarious by Tool nearly gave me an existential crisis lol

Thank you for this heartfelt reaction! With this tribute I couldn't to put my finger on the feelings I had why this song hit me. When you said "Tone" the puzzle pieces fell together. Indeed...you can tell they hit the core of the lyrics. In my mind perhaps another element helped to set that tone. After this concert the guys knew they were going to fire Tarja and did it by means of a letter and that was a hugely sad moment for them as she was their singer from the very beginning. Their relationship with Tarja had changed after she had married and the guys blamed her husband for it. So perhaps that feeling helped also to put so much feeling into this song. When they published this letter...so the fans would know why they fired Tarja... there was a storm of negativity from the fans and media towards the band and Tuomas, as the leader, was the main target. He couldn't cope with in and became so depressed that the thought of ending his own life was not far away. His parents helped him to recover and later on Tuomas was able to put all his feelings to music with "The Poet and the Pendulum" as a heartbreaking result. When you continue your NW journey you will discover that there are more songs that will hit your soul. That happened to a many of us and we shed a lot of tears...and still do and we are not ashamed of it! That is what good music does. I was very sorry to hear of the loss your beloved wife. I hope that you will find your way again in life and that finding new music will help you. Please take care!🧡

Thank you so much for the kind words and sincerity. I was familiar with the background of the performance, but not knowing fully, I didn't want to speak out of turn. Which is why I used the term "tone", which some folks mistake for audio only. That's not it. They captured the true "tone" of that piece and it was amazing. Thank you again for taking the time to comment and share. Cheers from Nashville, Eric

Hi Eric! First of all, my condolences for the loss of your soulmate, even if it may seem to others that she had been gone for quite a while, I can clearly see you still love and miss her very much. Also, thank you for this wonderful reaction. The NW fans like reactors that bring information and explain stuff, but we are also just fine with display of whatever emotion you get from a song, because we can relate. Above all this band evokes big emotions, and many tears have been shed and many happiness has been felt by us fans, we will not judge you for it. But, that being said, please only react if YOU feel you are ready for it! Also you can do a double take and listen to a happy NW song after one that brings you down a bit 😉 I have subscribed and look forward to more of your videos! Have a great day!

My interpretation of The Endless River is that the river was and is the endless river of music. This was intended to be the end of Pink Floyd's music, but that the river of music would continue. Nightwish's version of The Endless River is part of that endless river of music. Music will live on. Fortunately we have had further music by Pink Floyd since The Endless River. Thanks for your reaction to this song. I too am a huge Pink Floyd fan. Man, that Marko dude can sing.

(My wife is like who are you talking to lol)That’s why Floor and Marko were soo great as a pair because they both don’t just sing they emote. Letting Alone “alone” for a while might be a good idea . It’s just Floor’s voice and a piano and it is painfully beautiful! Be well my friend and if you need to cry and blubber you’ll find the Nightwish Army to be very understanding 🤘🤟✌️

Well, you definitely have done your one good thing a day, today, with this wonderful, emotional reaction. I was looking forward to it, and you didn't disappoint. You will find, as you plunge deeper into the Nightwish rabbithole, that much of their music will affect you emotionally, as it does us all. I don't know how they, and especially Floor, do it, but they really do connect, deeply. Of course, it is due in no small part to Tuomas's masterful composing and lyrics. Just watch him on stage - the guy feels every word, even after all these years. And they are just good folk. You only need to witness the chemistry between not only them and their fans, but with each other. Few bands enjoy themselves on stage as much as Nightwish. Perhaps, as a wee 'upper', you could check out Alpenglow, live from Wembley. As Floor says at the start, ''This song just makes you feel great''! It's a real feel good song. Simple on the surface, but I guarantee you you will be hooked immediately! kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX-mkKiQZ6yYi5Y

You really felt this. So do I. Nightwish call this a tribute. Personally, as a PF fan of 45 years or more, I prefer this to the original. Floyd, Gilmour I think, gave this the PF seal of approval. Energy is tremendous. Emppu's guitar tone is, as always, exceptional. Comfortably Numb? No. But High Hopes - yes, we do need to hear Nightwish's rendition. Now you know why the NWA think Marco is one of the greatest metal singers. I'd be interested in you synaesthetic appreciation of this - as a man who grew up with classical as you say , synaesthesia is something you share with Sibelius, Scriabin, List... By the way, I think of Tuomas as the Metal Mahler rather than Mozart. As a man with classical background I think you will know what I mean. I absolutely loved this - reaction? More than a reaction. Fantastic half hour. Thank you. Very much.

@@TheWyldesidewithEricClark Mahler is one of my favourites. He said his music contained the world and everything in it, which is how I feel about Tuomas. Thanks man! I appreciate that. I just sort of fell into it. I never made the connection of 3 decades programming rock radio in the US with reacting to and breaking down newer sounds. I'm not a music teacher or musician or a "trained vocalist", although I literally get paid $5/second to read scripts. And I'm also not a fool who just screams words and flops around for attention. I did that when I was 8. And I'm learning a lot, so I appreciate the other comment with the pronunciations. Megafans assume everyone knows everything about these bands.
