Hello Eric. First off, I was touched by your relating the wonderful story of your dear wife. I fully understand the emotions when listening to songs that you both enjoyed so much. My sincere condolences. I am the North American executive producer for Nightwish and looking after their May, 2020 tour of this continent. This band is more than a band really. It is a group of friends who play to have fun on stage and off. I, along with Floor, Marko, and others regularly watch the reactions to their songs. A note of interest on this song is that it was never meant to be a cover. You completely nailed that. It was a tribute. Marko, along with Tuomas and Emppu, put this together in one week in the Finland studio. I am sending this to Floor and Marko as this is the absolute best review of this song that I have seen. Your detail is remarkable. And, do not be concerned about Marko. He is doing great. Be assured that we will be subscribing and watching any Nightwish reviews that you may wish to offer in the future. I wish you all the best. Take care, Robert.

Thank you Robert, for the kind words and the compliment. I am humbled, truly, by this. Having spent 30 years in a padded room talking to myself, I'm always a bit surprised when I'm noticed, my ego aside. I know music is important to everyone, but Rock and Roll has literally been my life and I'm shocked to this day I was blessed enough to be at least "Rock Star Adjacent" and experience what I have. This is something new and wonderful and like I said in my previous reaction to their video, I'm sorry as a Program Director we are so hamstrung to where we can't promote artists like this on our own to our listeners. I have opinions about the US Music industry and very few of them are positive. On top of me working 30 years in Active Rock, my late wife was an attorney for ASCAP, so I have some added insight to the Machine. You thank me for my reaction, but I thank you for helping show the world these wonderful artists. If there is ever anything I can do to help further their reach, just ask. The community has come out in full force and have been nothing but awesome and warm. I can only hope I can provide something for them that is comparable. My email is on my page and you can reach out on any SM to have direct contact with me. And if you're ever in Nashville, beer's on me! Cheers! Eric

Wow, Eric. I didn't expect it to be such an emotional reaction. I understand and respect your pain, and I am glad that you find in yourself the strength to move on. Let me point out that many of us Nightwish fans have "clashed" with their music at critical times in our lives, and with their help we have found the strength to move on. And here's a paradox: I'm convinced that Nightwish members only set out to express themselves, not to be the "spokespersons" for the feelings of others. Such a thing cannot be interpreted, for them it is not a role, they actually live this, and this is felt. Thank you for helping me crystallize these ideas through your comment. Know that I am just an ordinary 54-year-old man who works from 9 to 18 and I have a passion for Nightwish, because for me it is a really meaningful phenomenon in this life. I don't lead armies. Your thanks flatter me, but my greatest satisfaction is not this, but to see people like you discover the diamonds and pearls of beauty of Nightwish music, which caresses the soul. Obviously, a new subscriber here. I look forward to your next steps in discovering this treasure :)

Pink Floyd is my favorite band and David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist. I also love Nightwish; they are on my list of favorites. But as such a huge Floyd fan, I refused to listen to this tribute for a very long time. And once I did, I was blown away. I can say, for me personally, this is the only cover/tribute that I approve of (except maybe Aussie Floyd). Marko was simply fantastic. Let me just say that I thought Emppu did a phenomenal job on the guitar. Too many people think that Gilmour is easy to recreate because he’s not out there shredding on every single. But it’s very difficult for people to be able to do Gilmour justice. Empuu is one; and a TikTok guitarist is another. Jukka and Tuomas were great as well. They always feel like a tight band but on this I felt the emotion pouring out of all 4 of them. It was very emotional. Condolences to you. It’s not the same but I lost my dad 4 months ago and it’s tearing me up. I’ve only watched a few of your Nightwish reactions so far (I’m late to the party, sorry) but you have an uncanny ability to really understand them as a band and Tuomas as a composer rather than just a song writer. You 💯 gained a new subscriber! Thank you.

@@TheWyldesidewithEricClark I'm so sorry for your loss Eric, I've been there. My statuesque and pragmatic wife of 30 years worked her guts out with a company that treated her like something you stepped in, so we could both retire here to a quiet bit of France in 2012, she was ecstatic. In late 2014 at 54 she had without warning a massive and immediate fatal stroke - basal artery failure. It was a dark time, very dark. So I can't do Nightwish - Kiss While your Lips are Still Red, just still haven't the inner strength. I can empathise, been there, not fun.

First of all, I'm sorry for your loss. I loved your reaction, very sincere. This indeed is a tribute, not a cover! It's Nightwish, doing what they do best. Evoking emotions in their listeners, mesmerizing them with their musicianship and showmanship, while still acknowledging the composition of this beautiful song. I'm glad I started you off on this Nightwish journey and I've subscribed to see where it takes you. Your words at the end of the video immediately made me think of a fairly recent Nightwish song called 'How's The Heart'. It's about human empathy and I think it will really speak to you. There's no live version yet, it's too new, but there is a wonderful lyric video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoXHi3drqqudgtU and a fantastic acoustic version (just Floor and Troy, Nightwish's English multi-instrumentalist) kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4rXnIOme76thdE

Nightwish evokes so much reflection and emotions, that in dark times, it can be difficult to listen to it, because it will penetrate the depths of your soul, and whether it can be positive or negative depends on your mental strength ... I for my part believe that nightwish heals the depressions, and that this reflection that forces you to do, does nothing but heal the soul a little with each listening..This happens with this tribute, they will try to enter your soul, and they do it in person, looking into your eyes and giving you everything they have, they will not negotiate even 1 gram of their talent ... this happens in many nightwish songs , this same feeling of weightlessness that is generated by watching this band.

Marko has openly said that he has had some mental issues throughout the years, so he really can put the all emotions into this song. Definitely a tribute. Thank you for sharing your reaction! Marco is a decade older than the rest of the band, a metal veteran who had definitely done some living before landing with them. And it really comes through in his singing, infusing whatever the song he does with sense and gravity. My personal favorite of his has recently become his last lead vocal with Nightwish in "Endlessness", as it really showcases that infusion and its impact.

With nightwish there is a level of professionalism and mastery that enables them to tackle everything. There is also a lack of ego that allows them to serve the music. It is rare that they will say what a song is about... rather it is. "I only know what it means to me, what it means to you is up to you" Floor is basicly an Empath, and at this point in Her career has the choice to only sing music that she connects with, and her ability to "become" the story is truly astounding. You will find Nightwish ( or solo involved with ) that you like more or less, but I doubt you will find one that is not real, authentic , and master class.

I am a musician/drummer for the past 50 years and former radio personality from back in the 70's, Floyd is still to this day one of my favorite bands and now to add to that list Nightwish. What a terrific reaction. The fact that you saw it as a "Tribute" gave me chills. So very sorry for your loss. Beautiful lady. I think you should delay Floor singing Alone. Floor and a grand piano brings me to tears, and I don't have the connection to the song like you do. To see what Floor can do with a song, see what she does with "Shallow" from Lady Gaga. Beste Zangers is a Dutch TV show that highlights 6 singers who spend time together and then spotlight each individually with the other singers picking a song to sing to that singer. Floor was 39 when she sang Shallow for Emma. Floor began singing Metal when she was 16 and Emma is 22. Floor had already been thru the path that Emma was now just beginning and....well, just see what she does. I do hope you eventually can listen to Alone, and maybe it will be a healing experience. Much love, my friend.

I’ve got to say I was blown away and absolutely regret not being more open minded to someone “covering” it when like you say it’s a tribute and a fucking epic tribute it is.

My heart broke to see you cry. I'm so very sorry for your loss, I know how it feels to have a song(s) connected to a lost love one. I have a few myself. I really enjoyed your reaction, so genuine and heartfelt. I found out about Nightwish not to long ago myself, and love watching people discover them as well. Marco is amazing, if you would like more of him there is The Islander or Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red (one of my favorites).

Thank you so much for your kind words. The reason I walked away from performing in 2015 was because I felt I lost my biggest fan. She was the only audience I ever needed and I was the only star in her sky. It hurts so much because it felt so much and was true. It's my ghost that haunts me and I'm not sure I ever want it to go away. As I grow, I hope to be able to enjoy what we shared, but for now, that's for when I'm alone and no one can see me. Again, thank you so very much and Cheers from Nashville! Eric

Thank you for your reaction, sir. All of us, Nightwish's fans, know that this song is a tribute to Pink Floyd, but Thank you for give us a great explanation about the Why. It was great! I embrace you in your sorrow. Continúe with this beutiful experience named Nightwish that I pretty sure you will find great music (not only by NW but also to some artists related to them, too) to add to your soundtrack of life. Cheers.

Hi Eric. Its NOT a reaction; it's a tribute!! Eloquent, professional and very insightful. You understand the music. You are in my top 10 music analysts now!! One of my favorite Gilmour versions of High Hopes is here... much more laid back and personal. Keep up the great work.

Eric, you really pegged the emotions and root of this performance. I love the word Tone because it really captures this moment so well. Not simply the sonic meaning but mostly the place in the soul where we connect to the music and the reverence to the meaning and feeling that the writer/composer and yes, the performer conveys. Thank you for a real and raw yet eloquent reaction.

Had to come back and watch again. Your reaction is so genuine ... like Marco no pretense. Then to have you share how hard it hits in part ... just wow! Perhaps the words you were looking for about the band ... there were the mountain pinnacle that Marco stood on confident it would not crack and fail. They are simply stronger together than their parts and the parts are all damn good!

I get you completely, man! I lost my wife too, in 2006. I was/am a singer/songwriter, and I couldn't play anything of my own stuff for years... Or listen to it. That part of my life was gone with her..... Now I can carefully play some songs for myself, but not on a stage. Afraid that I will burst out in tears. Still, thank you for this one. I'm a huge NW and PF fan for a long, long time!

I also had to compose myself, sorry...What a tribute! What a performance! Especially considering their state of mind with the Tarja-situation... Also, Jukka, the drummer, was having a severe migraine attack during this set and still played his hart out but in considerable pain... at about 10:40 in your beautiful reaction, you can see Tuomas nodding to Emppu to go check on him which he does a bit later... these guys are my modern day heroes, I'm not even kidding. I am going to follow you Sir, for I think there is knowledge to be acquired here...

16:29 ....me too brother. I was at the May 1994 final event ever at the original Cleveland Browns Stadium b4 it was torn down and the Browns moved to Baltimore. This song, this album, means the world to me and not only was I not offended by this performance, at the moment its my favorite rendition of the song. Marko had strain and longing in his voice as he sang it, i had no choice but to reflect on my own life's good, bad and exciting times. I just turned 57 this month so there's a lot to reflect on and this song always enhances my mood after I get the emotional release. Thanks for encompassing the way I feel about this song and immortalizing it on KZbin hopefully for others to connect with as well. The entire rock and roll genre of music my favorite music, is slowly dying and there doesn't seem to be anybody around to take the place of all the legends and the one hit wonders and the musical acts that should be in the rock and roll Hall of Fame and for some reason are not but there are rappers in the Hall of Fame. Gen Z is completely disconnected with rock and roll so I really believe that the best way to keep the best music ever alive is through KZbin reaction channels FM radio is dying I can't tell you the last time I listen to a regular over-the-air radio so there are no more DJs really to promote rock and roll so it's up to you guys and I really appreciate it because I get to hear the music that I've loved for a long time for the first time again vicariously through the reaction channels. Let me tell you the first time I watched a reaction to the song vicarious by Tool nearly gave me an existential crisis lol

Absolutely true that this is not a cover - this is a tribute and nothing else. I love how you totally absorbes the music and get emotional - this song with Marko on vocals, Thoumas on keys, Empu on guitar and Jukka on drums, gets me every time i watch it. Kudos and thanks for your perfect explatantion on how good this was. They totally get the PF tone.

I was there in Legion Field as well in '94 I think. When I first heard this "tribute" my reaction was very similar to yours. My past is filled with, not only the music of Pink Floyd but the memories around them as well. I became a Nightwish fan back in the early 2000's. We read an article about Nightwish in some metal magazine and went down to the local record shop and the owner said to check back in a week. Went back and he said he'd ordered two albums from Europe and said he'd call when they came in. About a month later we got them. Oceanborn and Wishmaster. The very first Nightwish song I ever listened to was "Walking In The Air." The reason being, it was mentioned in the article that first brought Nightwish to our attention. Then shortly after, the album Once was released and that was an amazing album. Finding a band like Nightwish back then in small town Alabama, was like finding a vein of gold in your backyard. I've been a fan ever since. A lot of the songs being recommended are Floor singing the old stuff. You may want to take a trip back in time to hear the originals first. Your choice. I enjoy your work here.

Because of your way of doing things, I have subscribed. Absolutely understandable to skip songs if they make you sad because of your wife. To the song. I think it's better than the original. Not only because I'm of course a Nightwish fan, but above all a metal fan. The original is just not my style. Marko's voice is simply sensational, the song darker and draws me more in. Emppus solos just great. Everything I want is in there. And if you consider that Tarja was fired right after this concert (everyone except Tarja already knew it at that time), the lyrics also take on a completely different meaning. Just like the intensity with which Marko sings.

I've been a Pink Floyd fan since I was a little kid and have heard many other artists try to play their material and fail miserably. This is the one version of a Floyd song that I actually like more than the original. And you're absolutely correct, it is not a cover it is a tribute and it is the best tribute you could possibly want. If you're going to do a song written and performed by the best you also have to be the best, and they are. Also I would like to say sorry about your loss and when or if you are ever prepared for Floor doing Alone be warned it is on the same level brother.
