Mir persönlich sind einzelne Sätze zu schnell geraten. Mutter sagte dann immer, es klingt wie weggeschmissen. Unsere Zeit hastet in allem. In der Zeit, in der Kunst, im Leben. Und in meinem Alter erlaube ich mir die Bemerkung: alles was klingt wie "schaut mal wie schnell wir spielen können" erreicht mein Herz und meine Seele nicht mehr. Weniger ist mehr.

It’s a wonderful sonata and there’s actually no reason to assume that Beethoven didn’t do the arrangement himself. It was published at a time when Beethoven was at the height of his career and fully in control of his output. To be sure there were also many arrangements of his works made by his assistants published at this time but we know what they are; it’s all well documented. This work and the arrangement that immediately preceded it, the Piano Trio Op. 63 which was also based on a work from his very early period, are both authentic 100% Beethoven, and the only reason they haven’t been accepted as part of the canon is because of the inherited prejudices of early twentieth century musicologists who decided that Beethoven never arranged his own work. Their assumptions have been disproven a long time ago, and yet this sonata and the sonata op. 17 - Beethoven’s own arrangement of his horn sonata - have still not been embraced as being part of the cycle of Beethoven’s cello sonatas. They really should be as they are fine works that are more substantial than the variation sets that are regularly performed and certainly worthy of sharing programs with the five sonatas originally written for cello.

It isn't known who made this arrangement, but it was published in Beethoven's lifetime, with an opus number. Arrangement not now thought to be by Beethoven.

@@otakuxgirl6 This is an arrangement of an authentic Beethoven composition, his Op. 3 String Trio. So yes, it is in fact by Beethoven. The arrangement however, that is up for debate. It's not known whether Beethoven or another composer was the arranger. It is still a good arrangement regardless!
