Vos interpretations de Zamboni sont une inspiration pour moi. J'ai un archiluth (avec les courses doubles), et je pratique cette Sonata en ce moment. Le Fugue est plutôt difficile, votre interpretation est sublime!

Dear Cristophe, this is the first time we hear someone play liuto forte with such excellence, musicality and natural feel. This interpretation of Zamboni is awesome. Everything, the tone, dynamics, phrasing, bass articulation. All is there. What a delight:) Anna and Anton

What an amazing instrument - played beautifully! It sounds like a viable alternative to an extended range guitar. I don't know if it's partly the recording (& your clean playing of course) but the basses in particular sound superb. It's a pity I didn't discover this instrument / other varieties of liuto forte before commissioning my 11 string guitar - I might have chosen it instead! Needless to say the music is lovely too.

3:51 oh yes this is exactly what i need. Really beautiful playing, true master at work. I think the archlute with single strings is the queen of all lutes. I am curious what tension and strings you use. Also on the descent it seems like you skiped one or two strings, is this the regular tuning? Edit: please forget the last part, i made a mistake when reading along the tab

Thanks Felix for your comment, which I appreciate all the more as I know your very interesting work on youtube. The stings for each Liuto-forte model are mostly designed specifically by Pyramid (very readily available). Their tension is between that of a guitar and that of "historic" lutes, which is a godsend for those who play both guitar and lute. If you want to know everything about Liuto-forte, the best thing would be for you to visit the site (blue link under my videos). But I remain at your disposal! Yes, the arciliuto is a wonderful instrument, but the Liuto-forte in D is just as wonderful (or even more so!). It uses the baroque tuning. You can hear it especially in my videos "Celtic music" and "Weiss".

@@christopherocher781 thank you very much. I use pyramid too on my 11string guitar and quite like it. Their plain nylon is rather bright sounding so it fits this instrument and music perfectly. I agree that these lutes all sound great, i once played a renaissance liuto forte at a friends house and was totally blown away. To me the archlute however is the better choice because you have the option to play those low notes, even if you dont they will resonate and enhance the singing quality even more

It seems that you are playing on an instrument with single strings rather than double courses. I had thought lutes had double courses because it's such a quiet instrument, and the doubled strings made it twice as loud, but your instrument with single strings seems to have plenty of volume and projection. Do you have any thoughts on this matter?

Compliments on your interpretation. Great performance! I have a few observations to offer. This new instrument would appear to me more similar to a theorbo (chitarone) than anything else. The reference to the classical guitar seems to relate mainly to the issue of right hand nails. I wonder how you tune this instrument? (my tuning question does not relate to temperament.) Double courses can, in fact, be played with nails, as I am sure you are aware (a couple of well known examples are Stephen Stubbs and the late Pat O’Brien), although of course most lute players play without nails. Single courses do add volume and projection but lower the own resonance (again, the theorbo comes to mind.) Another writer in this thread suggests that double courses add volume; in fact historical guitars went from double courses to single strings to add projection and volume. At the same time, guitars became darker in sound through the romantic era and therefore needed more string tension and a larger body cavity to still be viable concert instruments. Add nails for a brighter sound. Very interesting project, this!

Thank Lars for your comment. In fact, I also play historical lutes, so with "double"courses (Renaissance, Baroque, baroque guitar ...) but I find it difficult to reconcile playing with nails on these instruments and at the same time on the "modern" guitar. I also play theorbo and archilute (arciliuto) which are historically strings in singles (or with double courses for arciliuto). But the low string tension, compared to guitar strings, doesn't suit me. On this Zamboni video, I play an Arciliuto -forte tuned in G exactly like an old instrument. On my other Weiss video, I play a Liuto-forte in D, also tuned according to historical baroque lutes (with just an additional string-the sixth- in B flat). On my Miller video, I play a Liuto-forte in E: guitar tuning with additional bass. I have the deepest respect and love for old instruments, whose sound will always fascinate me, and which I will always continue to play for my greatest pleasure. But I am more "efficient" and versatile, and reduce the lutes / guitar gap with my Liuti-forti which are for me the best compromise. As they say in France: "Whatever the bottle, as long as we have drunkenness !!"

Bella interpretazione. Ma perchè arciliuto? Non ha le corde doppie. A me sembra una tiorba o chitarrone. Comunque bellissima musica.

What is the date of composition, and is it possible that Bach had this piece in mind when composing his Prelude in C major?
@christopherocher781
@christopherocher781 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe you are French? If in doubt, I answer in English ... The similarity between Zamboni's Arpeggiata and Bach's prelude is obvious, but no historical source allows to establish a link between the two. In addition, the form "Arpeggio / arpeggiata" was current at the time (in fact, just a series of chords, a harmony, which each one arpeggiated to its taste.). The instruments I play here are Liuto-forte, a modernization of "historic" lutes, which won the European Prize for Musical Innovation. It is only a proposal of what could have become of the old lutes if their construction had not stopped, and if they had not disappeared from the landscape at the end of the 18th century. Indeed, they are strung in singles, which makes their play possible with the nails. The strings have an intermediate tension between the historic lute and the guitar. The Liuto-forte is not intended to replace the historic lute, it is another approach, resolutely relevant for guitarists who want to play early music in an authentic way, while keeping their guitarist technique. But the historic lute remains essential !!! You can learn more about the Liuto-forte (the whole range of instruments) by visiting the Liuto -forte website linked to my videos.
