They "know how" procreation has done, they just don't do it in the traditional sense (having sex with a woman) because they have no desire to. Many gay men do the world a service by adopting one or more of the world's 18 million adoptable orphans, and others procreate through using their sperm and a surrogate, or something similar. Others still choose to not have children, because furthering their genes is just not their goal in life, having other goals instead such as making the world a better place--or, if they're still into the frankly selfish worldview of "all I want is to not be forgotten," then they make art that will live longer than they will. Such as this video, which may exist on the internet for a very, very long time. Also, HIV has been reasonably treatable since 1996, if that's what you're getting at. There are probably quite a few of them left still, especially since this is the London Gay Men's Chorus--through the work of a man named Greg Owen, the rate of London gay men with HIV has dropped quite a bit lately.
