Song Joong Ki already got what he wanted out of the marriage so he divorced her. He wanted fame and to stabilize his career when he was fresh off military service. What a better way to do it than to capitalize on the fame of her leading lady in a successful show and marry her. It was a calculated move on his part and his agency. He played it well.

K drama was just beginning to introduce on our television at that time.
