Watching your video made me reflect upon how I learn a new song. I agree with you 100% how important it is to "own" a song in your head before you even try it on the accordion. Sometimes I'll watch (on KZbin) ten or fifteen different accordionists play the particular song I want to learn ..... So that I can not only get familiar with the song, but also see witch treatments they give it. And by looking at the song that closely it helps me to "own" it better.

YES!! So well said. And I can totally relate. I'll hear multiple versions of a song before even trying to play it. 🙌

I love french songs. I'm learning French. I started to play the accordion in 2019. My English isn't very good. I don't speak it fluently.

Is there a reason you didnt show the bass side fingering on this song? Thats usually the side people have problems with/understanding.

As a beginner, I use fingers 3-2 for bass chords per teacher. I am hesitant to subscribe to your lessons bc I am easily confused by variations (i am chronoligically gifted) and i notice you use your 4th finger on C chord. Otherwise, website looks like a good way to learn more.

Hi hi. A lot of players use 3-2 instead of the fourth finger and that's totally fine. I only recommend switching methods when the technique is a hindrance.

Moshe Zuchter i have the same dilemma as rugbymum3, i tried to use the 4-3 on bass and it’s very awkward. Question is, is using the 3-2 going to hamper playing as i become more proficient. I quite playing when i was 11 years old because i didn’t understand the importance of leaning scales and chords. I am now 70 years old and really like the idea of playing by ear. Enjoy your videos.

@@dianneray5556 hey Dianne, I would say stick with 3-2 until you start noticing that it's slowing you down. I think it's fine. I've tried it just to see if it's slower / clumssier and truthfully I found it to be okay. I'm sure with a bit of practice there's no real difference between the two methods for the majority of us 😊

Regarding your Step #1.....knowing a song in your head. I set out to learn ‘Just Another Polka’ from a music book I recently purchased. I was unfamiliar with the song. I went to Spotify’ and found the song as recorded by Frankie Yankovich. I listened to the song. I immediately became depressed. His artistry and proficiency with the accordion are unattainable. The only thing we have in common is the instrument. Anyone want to buy an accordion?
